RobertKB Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) I recently purchased this '51 Dodge D39 Business Coupe which is at present a tri-colour with regards to paint. It was originally grey but was given a cheap black paint job sometime in its life. A green replacement fender was put on the driver's front side and I have included a picture of the car showing this fender. The fender has original paint and you can see a small area I rubbed to bring the colour a bit brighter. I have always liked this particular green on the early '50's Mopars and when it comes time to paint the car that will be the colour I will use. The question.................does anyone know the name of this colour and the paint code would be nice also? It is a Canadian car but if the name and code is not the same I should be able to cross reference it. Thanks for any help in advance. Robert Edited April 12, 2012 by RobertKB Quote

T120 Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Hi Fred, I haven't seen cross reference info between Canada and US paint codes. For instance, the paint code on my 1948 Dodge is 4012 which is called "Marine Blue",I don't know what the equivalent US code or name for this colour would be.Here is the chart for 1947 through 1950 (CAN) Edited April 13, 2012 by Ralph D25cpe added Attachment Quote
RobertKB Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Thanks guys. To me it looks like that front driver's fender is Sea Mist Green. Quote

D25_Steve Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Ralph, you wouldn't believe how long I've been looking for a Canadian Colour Chart like that! Do you have one for 46-48 with the colour samples on it? Quote
T120 Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Sorry Steve,I only have the colour chips for 1951.I have an old can of Dupont Canada Dulux DU796 which is a good match to the Marine Blue (4012) on my Dodge that I've used for touch-up in the past.Perhaps a Dupont Canada colour chart is something to be on the lookout for... B-Watson Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks guys. To me it looks like that front driver's fender is Sea Mist Green. Sea Mist Green is not a unique Canadian colour and was used on American 1951 Dodges as Sea Mist Green. Paint company codes - Ditzler - 41007 CIL (new) - 2331-2034 DuPont Canada - DU-745 CIL (old) - 93-71489 (which is also U.S. DuPont) Chrysler of Canada's Mariine Blue is a unique Canadian colour. Ditzler code is 1007. Canada-only colours had a four-digit code in Ditzler lists while the U.S. colours were five. By the way, the new CIL code for Marine Blue is 2331-2014, while the DuPont Canada code is DU-796. Which explains why it is a good match! I have Canadian Chrysler codes from 1936 and up, although my collection of paint chips is not complete. Missing 1936 through 1939, 1942, 1947-48, and 1952. 1940, 1946 and 1949 are not complete. If anyone wants to know what colour their Canadian car was painted originally, and knows the paint code, I can help. Can also give paint company codes for 1949 and up plus most of the 1940 to 1949 colours. An if I have the colour chip will also provide it. Should point out that `new`CIL colours started in 1954 when DuPont Canada was spun off from CIL. CIL went back to 1949 and worked their way forward, as did DuPont Canada. Prior to the split CIL used DuPont codes. Quote
D25_Steve Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) Anyone have a picture of a car that is painted "Riviere Mist"? That was the paint code on my dad's old 48. It was repainted back in the 80s to a mint green. In fact, I think boxer_inv has/had a car that was originally the same colour? Edited April 25, 2012 by D25_Steve Quote

Pays to read the threads sometime. 4201 Surf Blue My question was not fully answered, hence posing it. I did see the 4201. But the chart I also saw above only went to 1950. I wanted the Canadian code for Plymouth Cream colour. All I can find is 665, which I am assuming is the American coding. Looking for the corresponding 4 digit code applying to the cream colour in Canada. Thanks Quote
Sniper Posted October 12, 2022 Report Posted October 12, 2022 Doesn't look like cream was an option in Canada for 1951 so you aren't likely to find it, anything else is a guess. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted October 12, 2022 Report Posted October 12, 2022 (edited) same for 51 but then again still not the canadian number I suppose I can only suggest two places that may be able to help with the canadian paint specs, first would be to the Plymouth Owners Club and second would be drop a question onto the AACA forum for Plymouths....we seem to always have problems when trying to determine the canadian color over the US color. With the paint code on the tag, are you certain the car was not a color change? Edited October 12, 2022 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 12, 2022 Report Posted October 12, 2022 b-watson was at one time the best with information on the Canadian cars and well, Mopar in general for the era. He has not posted here since 11/2020 so I have no idea as to his membership and or general health. One would think a few of the avid Mopar owning Canadians could well be in line to answer the paint query, it just may be a bit before/if they sign on and or even read this thread. Quote
