TexasPilothouse Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Ok guys, found this truck and really want to buy it. The old man has had it for 40 Years and said it ran 4 or 5 years ago. He wants $800 for it, is that to much to pay? Body is in great condition needs glass, seat and whatever else under the hood to get it going. Just want to be able to fire it up, stay clean and cruze!!! [/img] Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Looks to be "All There". If you buy it, I have a cover plate for that hole in the dashboard on the lower right. What would you want to do with that truck? Hank Quote
austinsailor Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 That's way too much, you sure don't want to pay that. Just give me the guy's name and number and forget about it! :<) Quote
TexasPilothouse Posted February 25, 2012 Author Report Posted February 25, 2012 Haha, sounds like I need to buy it. Quote
lugnut123 Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 some new tires and some impliment paint and you could be on the road again. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Haha, sounds like I need to buy it. I certainly would! go get it! Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Ask if he has the radio, while you are at it ask for any extra keys, owners manual, repair manual or parts he has. You have to get this stuff with the truck. After all if he sells you the truck what good is the stuff to him? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Awesome find. Go get it before someone else does. Is that a factory turn signal switch? And is the cable assembly on the shift lever for a 2 speed axle? Merle Quote
knighthawk Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 I'd buy it ! I had a '48 Ford COE looked like that. Got it running,,hauled a lot of firewood from the 'back 40' on those old hard rotten tires ! Only thing is, becareful of those old lock ring style rims ! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 I'd buy it ! I had a '48 Ford COE looked like that. Got it running,,hauled a lot of firewood from the 'back 40' on those old hard rotten tires ! Only thing is, becareful of those old lock ring style rims ! Ford had the "Rings of Death" 3 piece killer rims! They were the RH5 wheels. Pic shown. You still have to chain em up or put them in a cage or under a loader bucket to inflate for safety. No rust or bent rings is a must! I love doing split/side ring rims. After doing 6 of them in a day it's time for a Brewski. Here's a twin yellow truck I pulled a gas tank out of a couple years ago in eastern Washington. It was a B3HA 170". A rust free truck too. Bob Quote
TexasPilothouse Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 Merle, not sure on the turn signal but it does have a two speed axle. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Looks like the Eaton 1350 2 speed rear end and shift cable and non factory turn signals. Quote
pflaming Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) I'd like a dollar for every bushel of grain that beast hauled. Does it have an hydralic hoist under that bed. I would NOT want to scoup that empty. Probably held around 200 bu. @60# /bu (wheat), do the math. I was looking at that tail gate. It hinges on the top, so they must have hauled alot to a town elevator, and could unload FAST. Been there, done that!!! Edit: The radiator has a shroud, is this a Texas truck, gets hot in those wheat fields!!!! For you guys back east, look at the horizon in these pictures, now that is FLAT, FLAT, Flat! Todd B Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Looks like the Eaton 1350 2 speed rear end and shift cable and non factory turn signals. Does anyone have a picture of "factory turn signals"? Quote
Mike 1948 1Ton Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I believe the switch is a Signal-stat 900 (?) probably dealer add-on but correct. Mine look like the ones on the front fenders, but mine are turned 180, the 'hood' is facing forward. Um, yes buy this truck, very cool! Mike Quote
wallytoo Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I believe the switch is a Signal-stat 900 (?) probably dealer add-on but correct. the switch itself looks like a signal-stat 700 "burn-out proof" to me. as originally wired, can't have brakes/running lights and turn signals into a two-filament bulb. the two pilot lights flash when the turn lever is operated in either the left or right position. they represent front and back lights, not left/right. if one of the pilots is not flashing (front or rear), then the signal lamp on the opposite side isn't working, ie, if the lever is for a left turn, and the front pilot light isn't flashing, the right front turn signal light isn't working. wally Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I'd buy it ! I had a '48 Ford COE looked like that. Got it running,,hauled a lot of firewood from the 'back 40' on those old hard rotten tires ! Only thing is, becareful of those old lock ring style rims ! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Here are pictures of the two types of factory Turn signal switches for the B-Series Dodge trucks also shown in the parts and accessories books. Quote
Dan Babb Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Sounds worth it. That's can't be way too much more than the scrap metal value, so if you dragged it home and found out it was worthless from a restoration point of view, you probably won't lose much when you scrap it (or part it out). If you get it running, you could make your money back by taking trips to the dump for friends and charging a hauling fee. Quote
TexasPilothouse Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Guys I appreciate all the input and yes Zen Master it does have a hoist. I would bet it has hauled a lot of Texas grain in it's 60 years. I hopefully will own it tomorrow and can't wait to get all the info and history on it. In the pictures you can't really tell we're going through a horrible drought here in the Texas Panhandle but yes, it is very flat in this part of the Panhandle! Wouldn't trade it for anywhere else in the world, great people and the prettiest dust storms you could see. Quote
TexasPilothouse Posted March 3, 2012 Author Report Posted March 3, 2012 Bad news guys!! I didn't get the truck, already sold it. Thanks for all the input on it, next time i'll know what I'm looking at hopefully. Quote
