plymouth-mike Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Hello, Im new here and i am from holland. My name is Mike and i have a 1953 plymouth cranbrook coupe. Now im replacing some parts and thus i bought a new waterpump from ebay. But after receiving it i see that it is going to be very difficult to place the pulley on it, because it is just a 'nipple' where the pulley must be pressed on? i don't see how the pulley has to fit on the waterpump , normally there is a 'thing' on the front of the waterpump where you can fit the pulley on with some bolts....but i don't have such thing on it... does anyone knows how this construction works? Please help... Thank you in advance. with kind regards, Mike Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Can you post a picture of your new pump? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 sounds like you got a pump without the pulley flange pressed in place..this is something that should be on there with the replacement pump..me thinks it is a defective device and should be returned..I know many hassles for you to return this but in reality this mount flange needs to be pressed in place on assembly and the depth to be pressed sets the alignment of the pulley to the generator/crank pulley.. plymouth-mike Posted December 20, 2011 Author Report Posted December 20, 2011 Hi Guys, Thank you for your quick respons. The waterpump is at the garage so i couldn't make a picture of it. But ive mailed the shop on ebay where i did buy it and the owner said : I looked in the 1954 Parts book. It shows a separate hub that does not come with the pump. It it a separate piece P/n 633733. If you were getting a rebuilt pump the flange would be on it but since you bought a NEW original pump you would have to get the hub flange for it separately. That's the only way they came. So he is going to find that part for me.... i hope i can get the part easily fixed on the waterpump.... Quote
Young Ed Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 FYI if you have trouble getting this one going these water pumps are still available new and they come with the hub already installed. If he's going to charge you for that extra piece you might want to consider cutting your loses and going to a new one. Can always resell the NOS one. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 I agree with Young Ed. Buy a new pump and be done with it. Here is the part number. NWP-713 Quote

I don't know how the later pumps are, but in '33/'34 the pulley and hub are one and the same. The pulley/hub is pressed on to the end of the pump shaft and then a hole is drilled through the flange on the pulley and the shaft and a pin is pressed in then peened over. As was mentioned early in this thread, a photo of the pump you are working with could be useful. It could be that you've gotten an incorrect pump off of eBay. Quote
