Got the visor painted to match the car and I am now ready to install it. The question I have is about the center supports. The instructions from Fulton (found old copy on the net) state that you should not loosen the windshield trim but moisten the rubber to aid the clamp slipping into place.

There have also been others that have said it is better to loosen the trim screws just a bit. Which is the best ? My windshield has been replace in the past but I do not know how long ago that was.

If you have installed one of these what did you do?

if Norm was here he would tell you to loosen the center support and ensure a good clamping action..his came loose at this connection point and flipped back toward the roofline..I do not think he suffered anything greater than soiled pants..

I lost a visor while towing a vehicle from another state..got lucky..week later I was along the same route and found it in tall grass..sweeter part is that the mowing machines had stopped mowing up the one side of the small bridge along the interstate..the visor as about 15 feet past the bridge

so yeah...you want to ensure these are connected firmly in place and I would suggest keeping an eye on them the first few outing looking for shift and lose connection as a result of buffeting in the wind.

I didn't do any loosening or wetting when I attached mine, just ensured they had appropriately grabbed the center trim. It's gone many miles via trailer during moves (meaning exposed to higher highway speeds than when I drive it), as well as 18 years of driving it. No problems. I do, however, include checking the tightness of the screws and such during my "PMCS" - "old" Army term for Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services, to bring back some memories :D - I find I have to tighten them at least once a year (I don't use any loctite or other thread locker) depending on how much its been driven.

When I got my Fulton visor from the US I was surprised at how flimsy the original bracket arms that went to the centre bar on the screen were.......I left the original piece thats under the visor that held on by 6 screws and fabricated a much stronger, thicker bracket from stainless steel which clamps around the centre bar and is held together with stainless bolts and chromes acorn nuts.........looks good and is very strong........but I still veer away from trucks coming the other way when driving on the highway..........I also polished the alloy brackets that hold the visor onto the door opening.......shiney is also good..........lol..........andyd

The one I have actually has 2 center supports.

Yep, mine originally had a pair of 1/2" wide 16guage sheetmetal brackets about 4" long, a strong fart would have bent them, so we made up the stainless pieces shown.........now even a bake bean, fried egg & cabbage fed fart won't move them..........lol......have seen pics of a visor that went over the roof top.........not pretty ........lol............andyd
