Can anyone post up a good close pic of what a original arm rest looks like on a 48 (especially the underside where the bolts are and are they different through 53?) if so I'd like to see any 48-53. I've got one that was in the truck when I bought it and the holes dont line up. Also any info on clips needed to install would be appreciated.

Basically PO took everything off and painted it and now everything is lost or off..

Thanks a bunch.

UPDATE:

I did just come across this link and the one I have looks similar to the ones with the yellow background but like I mentioned holes dont line up...

I wish it showed the holes. But maybe it shows something you need.

Here are some pictures of my old arm rest and the one I ordered from Roberts. You can see they are quite different. I need to send the Roberts one back. Anybody know of a source for the arm rest like is on my truck (I want to put one on the passenger side, but my truck just has the driver side.

I found out some interesting things when dealing with my arm rests like you.

I'll bet both will fit, IF your door holes are like mine, I had the advantage of not having any paneling on mine yet so I can see the holes. There are actually two places where it looks like you can put handles. The ones like your original old ones go into a larger hole which from my best guess the easiest way to hold them in place would be to remove the access panel and put bolts or clips etc...on the back.

The other way (which is what I ended up doing because I found some non original (but still mopar) plastic rests) AND they are just about the same width as the smaller you show. Maybe a tiny bit more narrow than the green in the picture.

They went in where there is a indent and square holes. I just got one of those clips (see pic) and slid it in the square hole over the round hole where the screw goes.

Found a couple old screws and voila! double door handles.

Notes: The crusty old ones I'm pretty sure they are from a D-24, the green and grey are from a 50's truck/powerwagon? And the plastic I have no idea? 60's mopar? Also they have to be short screws as not to interfere with the window regulator. I just used grabber screws and ground them down to size.

Hope this helps.

Brad

FYI at least on the 39-47 trucks that spring clip is what was used to screw the armrest on.

What is the part number for the arm rests you ordered?

Those look different than the ones Gary lists for the trucks.

The plastic ribbed arm rest is correct for B3 and B4 (1951-53) series trucks. I believe Hudson and a couple other automakers used these same armrests.

Are you saying the Robert's ones don't fit? (Because they sure lok like they'll look nice installed).

Thanks,

Hank :)

If anybody's got some of the "correct" ribbed plastic arm rests for a '53, I need a pair! Let me know please...

I know, that's why I asked. Looks like two different arm rests from Roberts.

It looks to me like the original arm rest in Dolly Dodge picture has square tabs on top of the arm rest that would fit in the square holes pictured in Ferdball's picture of the door where the arm rest is mounted. My guess is to take the strain off of the screws when pulling on arm rest to close the door

Sorry for being "out to lunch for a while", I haven't been on the internet for a few days. There was no way to install the Roberts Arm Rests. There were no extra holes. I returned them to Roberts and as always he was very helpful, and understood they didn't fit my truck. I hope I can find another orignial. My truck only came with the dirver arm rest (that is all it ever had), but I want to put one on the passenger door as well

I had the same experience with Gary Roberts several years ago when restoring my B2B. Roberts also (at least at that time) had a Ford and Chevy side to his business and I suspect these rests fit one of those vehicles. I posted the same photos back then, trying to keep others from making the same mistake. I never found a source for original arm rests.
