I have been spending more time driving my car then working on it. Here are a couple of pictures from last weekend’s drive. The wife and I drove about 80 miles round trip. Drove down to the beach to have lunch. Here is the through the windshield view. The car is running great, no leaks, nothing fell off, car starts right up, I am gaining a great deal of confidence in the old girl. The car that is.

Highway speed 65mph, no problem. The oil gauge is inaccurate. 35psi at speed 20 at idle.

No problems in stop & go traffic.

Cheers, Chet...

Gotta luv the way these old P 15 and D 24's go down the road. Glad you are getting to enjoy the fruits of you long labors.

Now we need to seriously plan some kind of get together for us Eastern guys. Doesn;t look like the POC is going to have a meet in 2012 as the president is just soliciting for a region to come forward. But we don't need a POC event to get together.

Chet,

Thanks for the great photos and so pleased that you are finally able to enjoy driving your Plymouth after all the hard work you have put into it.

Now maybe one day in the future you'll get up along this neck of the woods.

Again, congratulations,

Bob

Hey Chet,

that looks awfully familiar... all that blue sky behind the nice split windshield...

Great to see you had a prime weekend over there, too!

I really have to fabricate some dash knobs this winter, when i take a look into your

cockpit there's lots of little cool stuff mine doesn't have anymore...

Thanks for sharing!

Best,

Fred

Greg,

Your idea sounds like a plan.

As far as the driving is concerned I need to fabricate a spring return for the carburetor. There is some play in the linkage and I have a hard pedal return spring. With a small spring at the carburetor to compensate for the linkage play. I can lighten up on the pedal return spring and give my right foot a break on a long drive.

I like the throttle cable cruise control. Just have to remember it doesn’t disengage when you step on the brake. This weekend I hope to install the passenger side inner door panel. This way I will actually be able to lock up the car when parked. I have also been meaning to get a full comprehensive policy rather then just the liability I am currently holding. Just a couple of more things to finish up before I send off some pictures to the insurance company.

Back in the old days shoddy mechanics would install a "lighter" throttle return spring then charge the car owner a big bill for a tune up. They would point out to the car owner how much less pressure it took to accelerate and the owner would be as happy as if his mind was intact.:D

i have the same problem with my throttle spring.

my right foot alsways falls asleep after 30 minutes :D

i never dared using the hand throttle like that. good idea, though...

Chet, you are looking very good. I see all the gauges are working and that temp gauge is being very kind to you:) You say the word. We will get Jim and go to one of those eat in places like where we went before. That Red hot and blue has the best cat fish I have ever had.:) Glad you have it all together that's not easy.

Jim,

Soon.., I feel the trip back should be uneventful but my wife and I have different schedules over the next two weeks so maybe in early November. I need her to drive my truck back to VA. The car is not 100% complete on all the fine points but definitely very useable.

THANKS ALL FOR THE KIND WORDS. It's great to be on the road.

Glad to see you behind the wheel Chet! I'm envious that your driving season is longer than ours up here in New England. Another couple weeks and I'll be contemplating putting my car away for the winter before the snow flies.

Greg, I like the idea of an east coast p15-d24 meet-up. Seeing as you came up with the idea, why don't you start a thread to poll interest in locations and participation? :D

that would be great but as we all know location location location..will be so hard to find a spot that is neutral in respect to all and distance driven to attend the event....then we have things like school and work for those who are not retired and still raising a family..this will be like most POC events..local host gets local attendance..sure a few will still make the trip but echo on the few..I cannot yet throw my hat in..my retirement date I ihave yet to cast in stone

Mark, I have tried each spring to stir up interest, get nothing but tire kickers and folks who can't commit, whether it was atteding an established event like Spring Rhinebeck, or getting together somewhere as a stand alone deal. I get talkers but no doers.

So apparently we got several states full of stick in the muds, party poopers and wet blankets. Maybe a poll selecting which catagory they most identify with would be appropriate. In the meantime I have been to North Carolina, Mich, Mass, Viginia, Maryland, Pa, Vermont, Ct. and several places in NY, have always had an enjoyable time.

So lets hear of some locations that would be suitable for S I T M's, PP's abd WB's to travel to. Heck you don't even need to bring the Dodge or Plymouth if yer fraid of driving more than 50 miles.

Hay Greg,

I am glad you are an easy going no pressure kind-a guy. You remind me of my boss. No not the wife my other boss, the easy going one. Anyway, if it is humanly possible I will commit to any place within a 350 mile radius. That may change as I gain more confidence in my old car. If I need to take time off from work so be it. I also have a car trailer but that’s not fun unless the wife drives the truck and I sit in the Plymouth.

How about now before the snow ?

At the POC events I've attended, the local hosting region was disqualified for the attendance award. Seems like the neighboring POC region gets the attendance award. :)

Hay Don,

I take Greg’s post as a challenge. If I can have my daughters watch my 80 lb Lab (because she would tar up the unfinished interior) I will meet Greg and Bob at the Roscoe Dinner for breakfast this Sunday at 9:00 AM. Any takers ???

9:00 is a bit early, How about 10:00? 120 or so miles 2.5 hours in 1946 time.

Anybody else???

I'm thinking Corned beef hash, two poached eggs, bagle with schmear, coffee, medium oj.
