Is the weight of the truck sufficient to straighten out a bent (slight horse shoe) front bumper?

I was thinking of removing the bumper, jacking up the truck, sliding the bumper under the front axle and then slowly letting it down. :o

Anyone know of any tricks?

I don't think so. You will need to torch it, maybe torch it on the truck with a jack under the lowest point. LOL

Good luck with straightening the front bumper Kevin. I had mine in a 20 tonne press to straighten it but it kept springing back. We found that it was made from spring steel. We ended up cutting a slice in it and welding it whilst it was still in the press. It came out alright in the end though.

I believe the process most shops use is a hydraulic press..am sure in the backyard you will get the major deformity out but you will always be able to detect the fact damage had been done..it is good..ods are you will not damage the bumper to a point that when you decide to rechrome a shop could not fix it so in the mantime..less obvious would be good..

they'll straighten it w/o having the frame?

Yup they do lots of bumpers. Typically they are straightening them to be chromed but they will do it for painted ones too. I saw the results for a club members 41 plymouth pickup and they were great.
