Chester Brzostowski Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 I couldn't find the energy to get back to work on Sunday. So many weekends have passed that it was time to take her out for a shakedown cruise. I put about 60 miles on her in two separate trips. It was great to finally get a chance to get a feel for how she drives and what she is capable of. She ran great with no problems. The car gets into a grove at 60mph. I ran her at 60 on the highway for about a half hour or more. I took her up to 70mph for a couple of minutes and it seemed she had a lot more to give. Sunday was a great day. The picture below is a quick stop at a friend's farm in Lincoln. All I have left now is to finish the door panels and door window trim. They are painted and ready to go for next weekend. Then finish polishing and installing the body trim. It looks like I will be 98% finished by mid September. Still need rocker panel clips. Cheers Chet… Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Congratulations, Chet. What a great feeling that must be. I hope to see the car one day soon. Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 looks great Chet, sounds like she is running very well too.... Quote
RobertKB Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) Chet, that is awesome. Nothing like the shake-down cruise. I am glad everything went well for you and the old girl should be finished pretty soon! Congratulations! I have followed the rebuilding of your Plymouth pretty much from day 1 and it is nice to see you ready to cross the finish line! Edited September 6, 2011 by RobertKB Grammar Quote

greg g Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Huzzah Chet looks great, but nothing like that first trip to justify your time and treasure. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Chet, glad the car did OK. Lots more fun cruising than sanding, etc. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Finally after all these years. Great job! Quote

Cpt.Fred Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Chet, your car has come out real nice! I followed your progress and i'm really impressed about all the work you put into details, everything looks great! Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 Thanks all. Pretty soon I will be able to start on the 6 years of honey do’s which have been pilling up. It's either that or rip the 29 apart. ??? I’ll decide in the spring. Cheers, Chet… Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 Chet, your car has come out real nice!I followed your progress and i'm really impressed about all the work you put into details, everything looks great! Fred, I am sure you already know that the devil is in the details. I think it’s better to get these things done during the restoration process so you don’t have surprise repairs, at inopportune times in the future. Of course things happen so we will see if putting in the time was truly worth it. Chet… Quote
Jim Yergin Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Outstanding Chet. Congratulations. Your lack of problems on the first drive is a testament to your work. Looking forward to seeing the car in person. Jim Yergin Quote
Mark D Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Congrats and may she never see the side of the road going less than what the accelerator is asking her to do! The documentary effort alone is worth applause. Quote
Drdialtone Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Nice ride Chet!! Now.... DRIVE! And keep driving it as much as you can. Maybe even while doing some of those "honey do's"!! Quote

Chester Brzostowski Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 Thanks All for the kind words. Posting on this site has kept me focused on getting this car done. I still have some work to do and will keep you posted. Bob, yes I will take plenty of pictures and if I can figure out how to do a video I will post that also. I will definitely be coming your way at some point in time. Maybe we can convince Greg into meeting us at the Roscoe Dinner. Many thanks for all the help and comments over the years. It’s great when a plan finally comes together. Chet... Quote
greg g Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 (edited) Roscoe sounds good just say when. Know you got me thinking of Baklava......... Or how about this September 25, 2011 Waverly, NY - 2nd Annual "Last Chance" Classic and Antique Auto, Truck. Bike Show on Broad Street Rain Date: Edited September 7, 2011 by greg g Quote
1940plymouth Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Roscoe sounds good to me also Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 Greg & Bob, I need a little time to finish up the door panels and the body trim. Also a few more miles before I try a long distance drive like Roscoe. If I drive up to NY to see my sister-in-law then by all means I will shoot over to Roscoe on the way home. If this happens it would probably be early October, weather permitting. If not then definitely in the early spring. It's hard right now after removing and treating rust for 6 years to think about the car out in the real world weather, especially RAIN, Oh my !! I'll get over it but it will take some time. Chet... 1940plymouth Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Chet, Not a problem, I understand what you are saying. Just looking forward to meeting you and seeing your Plymouth, whether it be in Oct or the Spring Quote
