alan32433 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Can anyone tell me what model car this fits? They don't fit my 48 Desoto. The part that mates to the cowl is too long and too narrow measuring 5 5/8 long and 3/4 wide. For all I know these could be made for one of the lesser quality cars like Ford or Chevy <GRIN>. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 These are what the very hard to find and pricey mirrors look like that fit your car. Jay Fisher who I think has stopped making them was a source at one time. The 1946-8 Dodge /DeSoto and Chrysler Swan Neck mirrors are screwed on from the outside with fillister phillip head screws and a special metal clip with the nuts crimped on is attached to the body-unlike the Plymouth Swan Necks attached with studs and nuts from the back side. Sorry about the the poor quality pics! Bob. Quote
alan32433 Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 Thanks for the pics. The ones I have seem to attach from the back like you mentioned, but I still don't know if these are correct for Plymouth? Quote
greg g Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 A profile of the shape of the base would show if ti matches the P12 style stainless belt moulding profile. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 could this be 41 Dodge? It appears to similar profile to that of my 41 Town Sedan bewt of my memory of what that looked like... Quote
oldodge41 Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I also thought '41 dodge. The profile looks right but I think it is too long at 5-5/8"..................Tim Quote
Jim Yergin Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) Can anyone tell me what model car this fits? They don't fit my 48 Desoto. The part that mates to the cowl is too long and too narrow measuring 5 5/8 long and 3/4 wide. Those dimensions match the dimensions of the swan neck mirrors I have on my '41 Plymouth. One is an original I found at Hershey and the other is a Jay Fisher reproduction. They fasten from behind with two screws passing through the cowl from inside the car. I have 5 of the driver side mirrors NOS in perfect shape. Even though they aren't correct for my car, I placed one about an inch or so above the trim on the drivers door and it looks fantastic! I'm thinking about mounting one there. If I do that, I'll sell the others but knowing what they fit will certainly help. And by the way, your car looks great! Quote
Jim Yergin Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I will try and get some close-up pictures (if my wife will let me use her camera). Thanks for the compliment. Jim Yergin Quote
Drdialtone Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Hey! I'll be interested in a pair if you are selling! Quote
Jim Yergin Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 My wife cooperated so here are some close-up pictures of the mirrors on my car. Jim Yergin [ IMG]http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/yergin/Swanneckmirrors002.jpg[/img] Quote
alan32433 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 Jim, I think you are right, the ones I have seem to be correct for your car. I'm going to mount one on my car although they won't be in the original configuration. But I think it will look great. After I get it mounted, I'll probably list the others on eBay. Quote
