Hey, I was just teasing you about people already wanting part of your car. It is true, tho, that a pair of California black plates are nice to have in thats where you live.

If you need any help, or the odd nut or bolt give me a call, I'm in your phone book.

Well, I didn't consider it too strange a question since Reg lives in

California and has several old cars and trucks. Not sure that CA

plate (or plates) will be of great inerest in Indiana. They do have

a certain amount of value nowadays however.

IT'S HERE!!! it's about what i expected. real straight, VERY LITTLE rust. the bottom of the deck lid has some rust, a little on the tail pan, and maybe a pin hole here and there. very complete only missing the rocker trim, and one window crank and one door handle. oh yeah the rear bumper, but i've got some 49 plymouth bumpers i plan on modifying to fit. i'll get some pics soon but it really just looks like the one pic i posted. IT WILL BE A HOT ROD!!!!! but i will preserve the feel of the car. i plan to use the stock steering wheel and column adapted to cav r&p. shock mount relocation, disc brake conversion, fatman drop spindle supports. i've got a ford 9" rear and some discs for it. i want to reupholster the stock front seat. 12volt conversion. AND a small block chevy with a 5spd. i know thats a lame power plant, but i'm a chevy guy. ( 69 camaro& 55chevy convert)

Not busting your chops as it is your car and you should build it the way you want to. My question is if you are a "chevy guy" why not build a Chevy coupe?

I myself am a Mopar guy and if I was going to build a convert I would not buy 55 Chevy convert and put a 340 in it. I would find a Mopar convert to build.

That's fine for you. He found something a little different and fell in love with it.

I'm grateful that at least he is putting another old Plymouth back on the road, albeit with the engine of HIS choice.

Scotty-t, you heard the man, better forget about it. What were you thinking???: :D

Scotty T,

Congratulations on the new project. Keep us posted on the progress.

well....i like the looks and the affordability of the coupe. and i have lots of parts that need to be used. the rear end i'll use is a ford 9", it's already the appropriate width and has disc brakes. i could get an 8-3/4, but the 9" works as well as the mopar and i have it. i want an over drive manual trans, i might be able to find a dodge pick up with the nv3500 5spd and a 318 in the bone yard. but i've already got an nv3500 from a chevy and a roller cam 350 that i spent some $$$ on. of all the changes i want to do, the engine/trans would be the easiest to change later. also the sbc is a small lightweight, cheap and easily adapted power plant.

Ummmm No, I was not busting his chops. I was asking a question.

He answered the questions with his reasoning and I understand where he is coming from since he has the running gear already on hand. Often when folks state their plans to drop a SBC in what ever car they can come up with, their reasoning is interesting to me. Many times they say they selected a (fill in the blank) car because they wanted something different, then power it by the same thing that the vast majority of rodders do. They also state the cost to build with a SBC are far cheaper that to build with the same make engine as the car. With the Mopars that is not really true. Yes it will be slightly less expensive but not a great deal.

I just think it is odd when you see streetrods with "Plymouth" stitched into the seat, or the Ship logo on the trunk divider, or "Plymouth" in the pinstriping of an old Plymouth then when you look under the hood it is a SBC.

Again, his chosen path is not the path that I would follow but as I said it is his car and he should build it to suit his tastes / budget. I was simply asking why he was following that path as I find it interesting when someone says they are a Chevy guy but buy a Mopar to build with an SBC. Just as I would if a guy said he is a Mopar guy but bought a Buick to build with a 340, or a Ford guy who buys a Chevy to build with a 351. Just interested in his choices. Nothing more so cool your jets, nothing to get excited about.

i understand where you're coming from. if i was planning this job from a blank sheet of paper, i wouldn't use a sbc. but you'll find when you get out of the niche/specific communities/forums you will find a lot of mixing and matching

of brands. i really shouldn't have called myself a "chevy guy" because i appreciate most old and some newer cars.

I actually saw one guy who faked in an extra distributor cap put fake spark plug wires on his valve covers and painted Chrysler firepower on his SBC.

Then there is the fellow a member here who has caused a lot of comments at car shows by adapting Mopar Poly valve covers to his Chevy powerplant. And after seeing the pictures, I think this is a reasonable way to approach and bring an end to the squabble.
