I would find that a bit suspicious and it makes me think he has friends bidding on it to up the price. If I was at $6100 as a bidder and really wanted the car, what's another $100? Quote
michael.warshaw Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 That was my 6100 dollar bid, i would say exactly hat that hes having friends bid on it. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 That was my 6100 dollar bid, i would say exactly hat that hes having friends bid on it. Years ago, when you could still see bidder ID's and dig deeply into past auction results, I seriously thought about bidding on a very nice '51 Plymouth. I started researching the seller, and discovered that his cars always seemed to attract the same three bidders, and he was bidding up their stuff as well. I held off on bidding, and, lo and behold, the last $3,000.00 of bids were propelled by the same three people. An outsider got the car, and I really think it was a case of bid-running. I even notified eBay, with detailed data that I had accumulated, and they did nothing about the seller, as usual. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I even notified eBay, with detailed data that I had accumulated, and they did nothing about the seller, as usual. Ebay did something. They started hiding the bidders name so nobody could complain anymore. Cut there complains down to almost zero. Quote

E-bay would be shooting them self in the foot...remember..the lister pays them not the bidder.. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 i love the car, but i smelled something fishy, and i called hes a dealer not a enthusiast. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I still don't understand how you guys determined what the reserve figure is? Quote
Young Ed Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The auction description states the reserve. Something I believe is a good idea for high ticket items. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I still don't understand how you guys determined what the reserve figure is? in the auction description the seller said the reserve is 6200. 1950 Plymouth Deluxe This Plymouth may be a basic car but it is a good looking and fine running car that you can enjoy at a reasonable price....The mileage reads 38,313 and it is believed to be original... The paint is an older repaint of the original color...The body is solid...Chrome and trim are in good condition as the the pictures show....The interior is original and in excellant condition...The pictures show the back seat with the cover but it is as nice as the front without the cover...The wood grain dash is also in excellant condition... This car is a comfortable and easy driver with the original str 6 and 3spd running out strong...Steering, clutch and brakes should be considered good...This Plymouth speaks for itself and it is ready for the road... The reserve is set at at a very fair price...$6500.00 For more information or questions please call 734-241-9403... Please note...The buyer is responsible for vehicle pick up....This vehicle is sold "as is condition"... Quote
49 Dodge Dude Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 That is my feeling too. A '49 Dodge sedan. I had forgotten about that commercial. A real hoot.John R Oh my gosh - I remember that commercial from way back. Clara Peller was friggin hilarious! I never paid much attention to what she was driving, but that's a '49 Dodge, and I now have one of those sitting in my garage! Weird! Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Oh my gosh - I remember that commercial from way back. Clara Peller was friggin hilarious! I never paid much attention to what she was driving, but that's a '49 Dodge, and I now have one of those sitting in my garage! Weird! I bought this 49 Club Coupe about 6 years ago and was told by the sellers that is was the car they used in the commercials. The gave me a newspaper article with Clara sitting in front of the car. I didn't buy the story but I did buy the car and named it Clara for fun. Shoot....I guess I sold the article along with the car. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 in the auction description the seller said the reserve is $6200. Duh! So if he states what the reserve price is, why do you suppose he didn't just start the bidding there? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Sometimes I don't understand the sellers thinking either. Some will NOT tell you their reserve, even if you ask....which I have a few times. They naturally want to get the most they can. I guess when the buy it now price is only maybe $100 over the first bid price, that must be what they'd take. When I have sold smaller items on ebay, I would make the first bid amount what I would take for the item if only one bid were made. Anything above that would be gravy. Quote
