this mattock is killing me..started the dreaded job of digging a 15" x 18" x 32' foot trench..about 8 feet into it already..then I have to break left and go about another 20 feet but this one is only a spade wide..trade Plymouth parts for ditch digging..any takers..I only hope to get it done this weekend...

even though I got a farm rated tandem trailer..it is not consider by the rental folks suitable to transport their equipment but for a FEE..would be able to deliver...and pickup but then their schedule is not that of yours and the contract time it is at your home will well exceed the actual time you need the unit..costing you more sometimes than it is worth..plus I am in close proximity of buried water, gas, electrical and sewer lines and must go under the house at one point...I now have the big trench dug and getting a bit of coffee before starting the small narrow run..if I had not had to dig up a stump that was ground below the surface and all the big butt roots..I would not be near as tired as i am at the minute..in all respect..it is going good so far..I have navaigated all but the gas line and thermostat wire

Sure am glad you have better soil than we do here. Here on our property if you go down more than a few inches you keep hitting chucks of sandstone. (Although it still looks like you went through some pretty solid ground.)

When I put a deck on the back of our house some years ago, I had use a spud bar to chip through solid sandstone some places, for the posts. They say go well below the freeze line, and so that means 36". It would take me days on end to do what you did. (But then my father-in-law has a bobcat with a small back hoe for doing trenching. But you're right about any place there are pipes, and you were in a tight place there for at least part of the way, too, it looks like.)

Good morning everyone, slept in a bit this morning but hey I normally do that on the weekend as it is. To even my surprise I have no body aches at all from the digging but only a bit of my usual carpal tunnel flareup..and now that I am up and moving it has even subsided. HOWEVER..seems most my overdoing catches me on the second day after..so ask me tomorrow how I am going...lol

Harvey..water lines it is. three seperately controlled confort zones, plus power line, water source and thermostat/control lines...eventually will be heating approx. 6000 sq ft..is a bit late start but this is the first somewhat cool weekend we have had..this install will not all occur overnight I assure you..

I applaud your job there Tim....not many people willing to bend over and "get it" these days, it seems, and I see (and bid) a lot of projects like this reasonably healthy people could (and often should) do themselves that they instaed just lay out lots of cash to hire out, or do the fairly expensive rental thing. Well, hiring it done would have been an option..but having to rework it would cost even more has been my find..I can get more done with the same money if I put my back ito it..granted it does not all get done immediately..but allows me to get more done in the long run. And you are right, if you don't try to kill yourself in the process. the work can actually be good for you..some folks call me hard headed and others call me cheap..but most call on me when they need something done..
