Rodney Bullock Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 OK, I have been putting this off for a while now however I must replace this heat riser. I had it done before however one fo the screws in that flap has come out and the heat riser body slides out every once and a while. First question is: can I find a heavy duty one that will not come loose? second question: How do I prep the bolts for easy installation. third: if that hole on the other side of the Ex. manifold is big what are my options? Young Ed Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) Rodney I believe the technique is to tack weld those screws into place or to stake the threads on the other side of the shaft. Edited October 19, 2010 by Young Ed Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 if the shaft is threaded...(not just use of jamb nut)...use a screw just a tad longer...cut a slot in the screw..thread it in, tighten it up for proper torque and alignment to the manifold, then spread the screw at the cut...does not take much spreading and this can be closed and the screw removed should there be a need in the future.. Jim Saraceno Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 As far as the hole in the manifold for the shaft being too large.... I believe the kit comes with new bushings so just drive out the old and press in the new. When I first messed with my heat riser, I bought a new bushing at the hardware store. It's OD was too big so I drilled out the manifold. I probably shouldn't have done that (and I wouldn't have had I known I could get new ones that fit right) but it's still working after 6 years.
