Andydodge Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Tommy........I have an exhaust manifold that you can have, unfortunately I am in Oz.......Australia....its the same, rear dump exhaust which is different to the stock one on my 41 RHD Plymouth..........if you need it let me know but shipping will be quite a bit..........andyd Quote
knuckleharley Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Well guys, the inevitable happened. Got all 13 fasteners off and of course the manifolds were stuck. Took about 4 hours of prying and they finally came loose. Unfortunately one of the studs broke off flush with the block. Tom,I know it is a little late for this advice now,but if you ever have to do this again start the engine and run it until it is at normal operating temperature before you try to do this. The heat deep down really helps with the manifold removal without breaking process. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 knuckleharley, Good advice for the next go around! Never thought of it that way. Unfortunatly I had the chain cover and alot of stuff off the car before I started on the manifolds. Thanks, Tom Quote

P-12 Tommy Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Hey guys, I picked up the Speedi-Sleeve today and installed that and a new seal on the chain case. The sleeve I used was #99218 at NAPA. $44.00 Put a new gasket on the cover. I let the cover float and installed the pulley. Then I tightened the bolts on the cover. Tomorrow I should get my new front engine mount and a new fuel hose for my pump. The first picture shows the installation tool to put on the sleeve. The other pictures show the finished product. Thanks for the support, Tom Quote
Andydodge Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Tom, no problem, that number for the speedie sleeve, is that a NAPA number or speedie sleeve number as NAPA is only a US base & a speedie sleeve number would work worldwide.......regards, andyd Quote

At least if you enter it in the NAPA online web site as a NAPA number it brings up a "Timing Cover Speedi-Sleeve". On the other hand, NAPA often uses the actual manufacturer's numbers. Entering "Speedi-Sleeve 99218" into a Google search turns up http://www.globalspec.com/datasheets/114/SKFGlobal/4CBBA03C-9680-4E2E-B123-B3E5B0B97BC2 and http://www.skf.com/skf/productcatalogue/Forwarder?action=PPP〈=en&imperial=true&windowName=null&perfid=791701&prodid=791701095 So it might actually be a Speedi-Sleeve number too. Yeah, I was on the Speedi-Sleeve site a few days ago and 99218 is their number and NAPA uses that same number.Tom Quote

Thanks for the support, Tom Tom,I am sure you already know this, but double check to make sure the new fuel line is rated to stand up to the new fuels. What passes for gas today eats the old type rubber fuel lines like it was acid. Quote

P-12 Tommy Posted October 16, 2010 Author Report Posted October 16, 2010 Hey guys, Got the front motor mount in and fuel line. Figured I might as well degrease the engine while I'm at it. I'm gonna wait 'till I get my manifold set-up, then put the radiator, hoses, and the front clip back on. I like to have more room to work on it. Here's a few more pics. Tom Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 Heys guys, I received the manifolds from Jim Yergin today.:) I went ahead and installed everything except for the front clip. Put a gallon of anti-freeze and the rest water. Cranked it with the key off to let the oil pressure build before I started it. Man, is this thing super quiet now. I let it run for about an hour and so far no leaks!! The whole underneath of the engine and tranny is dry as a bone! Let's cross our fingers on this one. You all know how it goes.I'm one happy camper right now. It's nice to hear the old girl running again. Here's a couple of pics. Tom Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Well, I managed to install the hood panels, grill and bumper today. Couldn't get the fenders on 'cause there's nobody around here to help me with them. We have a Pre-License Real Estate class starting tomorrow morning so I don't know when I'll get the fenders on. My girlfriend Terri teaches and I do everything else. So I'll be tied up 'till next weekend. So far everything's going on pretty good. Here's a few pictures. What a color scheme huh? I don't care right now as it will get painted one of these days. BTW...I'm still looking to find some sort of clips to put the outside grill trim on. P-12 Tommy Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Last Sunday I finished the fenders and tightening things up. My girlfriends 12 year old grandson Barrett helped hold the fenders while I put bolts in. The only thing left is the outer grill moldings. I gotta finish making clips then I'll install them. Somewhere down the road it'll get painted. That is when the cash is flowing a little better. Here's a couple pics. BTW... I took him home in the '41. He lives in Malabar, Fl. which is 15 1/2 miles from Melbourne Beach. 31 mile round trip. So far no oil leaks. Ran great! Yay!! And thanks again Jim. The exhaust has no leaks and is real quiet. knuckleharley Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Tom,how did the 12 year old enjoy the ride in the old car? IMHO it is impossible to exaggerate the importance of taking young people for a ride in our old cars. The survival of the hobby relies on this. Quote
