I hear your supposed to burn these things in? any pointers?

OK just did some reading and burning in pretty much renders these things a loud obnoxious straight pipe.

If I wanted that type of racket I'd drive a Honda.

I have always preferred the sound of the turbo pancake muffler..not loud, definitely not brappy, just a nice rich throaty tone..about the only draw back to this muffler may be the room to mount it in place as they are oval in design..you can get these offset in/out/ctr as needed..bought in length and pipe size as needed..most always a generic application can be found..Walker sell these at a very affordable cost..can be found in any across the counter parts house but you will probably need to ask for the Walker book to grab the correct item to match the offset/length and pipe size your car may require

Personally, I guess I have out grown loud exhaust or more specifically droning exhaust at cruising speed. I have a Dynomax turbo flow on mine, and at 5 years old is starting to get a little loud for my taste. I used to put cherrybombs on my cars as a youngster, and enjoyed the noise, but guess I'm past that.

Burning out a glass pack was just that, pouring in some gas, lighting of, and letting it burn out. Giving you what is essentially a straight pipe with a 30 dollar bulge in it.

Thanks Tim that sounds exactly like whats on my dads 66 wagon. Its got the best sounds dual ever. How do you think one or two of these would sound behind a 6 compared to a big block?

I have installed them on 4's for a nice sound, got one installed on my V6 project but not fired up yet...have them on V8's now and I do like the pups...I have a big brand name single on the cruising van..not bad sound there either..its a bit deeper tone but thankfully no brap..I can't stand brap, reminds me of a pack of chicahuas in a plastic 55 gallon barrel..

Sadly the neighbor isn't around to ask anymore where or what he put on that wagon. I did crawl under and your description sounds perfect. They are probably the shorter ones as they looked only a foot or so long under there. That and 3in pipe make for a nice sound. Gets you a little drone at 55 but 65-70 speeds is nothing. People always ask whats in that thing cause is sounds much meaner then a 383 2bbl.

the fiberglas packing deteriorates with heated use. it gets louder and louder thru the years..a slow process tho. leave it as is..dont burn it out.!

cherry bombs are the loudest i think..smitty's are the quietest. probably the density of the packing.

i like the boom boom boom of a glas pak over the b-rrrrr of the turbos.

your choice. i have 2 cherry bombs brand new in box, left over.....anybody interested $20 ea.

i have installed glas-pak pipe extensions at the rear bumper...it also softens the r-ap r-ap enough to be tolerable.

i have the glas paks on my cars.....i see tho that 99% of street rods are quiet.. might soften my rides a bit!!

On my dual exhaust from Langdon's , after running the new type Smitty's (sp) for a few years I tired of the loudness in every phase. I put on glass packs for two minutes and took them right off.

I settled on a "turbo" type by Flowmaster (I think).

A very mellow sound, which also sounds very nice on the down slope of a rev.

My car won the the "Rappin" contest in Minden NV Inliners annual picnic in June with these pipes. Sounds very sweet. And you can hear it fine if you get on it hard. Kind of sounds like a older Jag.

The mufflers themselves are about 7 in wide x 3 in high x about 14 in long.

I recently put a set of the Langdon headers on my '53. I'm running 2" pipes with 18" oval Emco mufflers. It has a nice mellow rumble to it and only gets really loud and raspy sounding when it's revved up. I like them. I outgrew loud exhaust long ago. Glasspacks are illegal in Calif anyway so that wasn't an option. Back in highschool they were still legal and I loved 'em. Now, I prefer mellow. I have a stinger for my bug that has a removeable baffle that you can put fiberglass inserts between the baffle and the housing. Haven't used it in years. Sounds like bees inna beercan.

Aussie, Bill's right. Leave it as is. Myself, I had stage two Flowmasters on a 440 Charger. Nice sound. My P-12 has the stock 201 and I put two inch exhaust on it with a stock muffler and sound nice. My 2 cents.;)

still liking the sound of my ford tractor stack with about a 1.875"x8"x24" muffler. good and quiet at idle, but it has a nice grumble when you romp on it. besides, it looks like i have a meat smoker from walmart on the side of my truck!
