desoto1939 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 The car in the picture is a 39 Desoto Thats my car, just kidding Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Post office, general store, gas station, It would be great if such places existed today. And how long has it been sence anyone has seen one of these goose neck radiator filler cans? Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 When looking at the picture of the 39 Desoto I quess the car just must have come out of a garage. There is snow on the ground and if you look at the car there is no snow or dist onthe car to indicate that it was driven to the gas station. The would be white snow onthe tires and on the fenders and also on other parts of the car. Just my observation of the picture. Rich hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
TodFitch Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Maybe Scott Run these days.Adding water in the winter???? Maybe alcohol. Looks like a Mopar. I'm wondering if they are adding hot water to thaw out a radiator frozen due to insufficient antifreeze... Google maps shows Swiftwater, PA to be in the Pocono area. I wonder if that building is still there. I don't see it on the "street view" for main section of road that Google maps shows to be the town. Quote
dparksie Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Swiftwater is still there. Just not much left these days I don't recall it ever showing up on a map for some reason. Scotrun is right down the way. I have to admit I still have 2 goose neck cans medium and large size from a Texaco station I worked at in school. When the station folded the owner gave them and some parts for my truck to me instead of the last weeks pay. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I'm wondering if they are adding hot water to thaw out a radiator frozen due to insufficient antifreeze... I recall a winter day when I was about 16 years old driving my dads 1952 Chevy. Suddenly the cabin heater quit heating and was blowing cold air. Pulled into the next service station and found the radiator frozen solid not allowing water to circulate. I dont recall the "fix" but I think it was just a matter of time and the addition of antifreeze. No permanent damage to the engine as it did not blow up until the next summer when I drove it way too fast for an extended period of time on my way to a drag strip. Quote
T120 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) The pail they're using looks similar to one I have in my garage amongst my junk...err,"inventory" ...Whoops, had the wrong label on the photo Edited August 18, 2010 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
