Not that fast actually probably less that 35MPH for most of those clips. The through the windshield view seems to make it look faster.

These are roads that go across "the peninsula" between the southern half of the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Highest places are maybe 2,000 ft, lowest are basically sea level. Drier sections are typical California oak and grass savanna, damp sections are coastal redwood forest, near the ocean with the salt air is coastal scrub sage, etc. Total tour distance was about 65 miles and with the to/from the tour start location we probably drove about 100 miles.

Looked like a fun ride......not mention a nice looking day too.

Todd's video remids me of our tour through the moutains around Camp David in Maryland during the POC meet last year. On the way up we followed a 28 Plymouth that was just pulled out of a barn. 4 cyl wooden wheels skinny old tires and who knows what for brakes. We stopped at the top for a stretch and a potty break, then commenced the down hill run. I didn;t think much about it as I have driven some steep hills in the 46, but as we lined up the 28 was behind me. The first sign we encountered was a caution steep grade 6% for the next three miles. So I drove with one eye in the rear view as I thought I might be braking for two.

No problem, the old 28 made the trip with no drama. There was some hot brake smell in the luchctop parking lot but no failures among the group.

Didn't get video of that (wasn't thinking) but here is one from a couple years ago.

Took this 8/10's mile uphill at give or take 60 on the speedo.

I posted it before but since we are looking for video.....

Back when I lived in Baltimore did some scouting for tour routes for the Chesapeake Region of the AACA. I remember a pretty steep road in Catoctin Mountain Park near Camp David. I needed my 33 to be in second gear for enough engine compression to keep from over heating my brakes. Decided it was a bit steep for the typical 20s and 30s tour car that were going on those tours.

Edit: The tour cars behind you that you have to worry about are the ones with fluid drive or the early automatics. No engine compression braking, so when they over heat their service brakes they are out of options.

Very cool Don. Its funny how much enjoyment I get watching videos of old cars driving around. Maybe cuz I know its being driven by people I chat with and know. In any event, they may be just small video clips, the "kick out of it" lasts all day. Thanks guys.
