Ken Bartz Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Here are more salvage yard photos. These are of French Lake Auto Parts in MN, 60 miles West of Minneapolis. The last photo is my completed project of removing the inner fender of this 1952 Plymouth, on the left. Note, another 1949 Suburban. FLAP boasts more than 100 acres of cars. If you go there plan on more than one day as there is a lot of ground to cover. I have an aerial photo of the place I could send upon request. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Next time you guys are in my hood I need an invite! I've spent many hours wandering this place. I've been to Sonnys a few times and a couple others in the area. Windy hills was the best but its gone now. Quote
Greenbomb Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Wow! That looks like a vacation destination to me! Quote
RobertKB Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Gotta love old yards like that one with tons of old cars. Heaven! Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 You are making me nostalgic. My dad and I used to always take the long way home via French Lake and Windy Hills when he came to pick me up for Spring & Summer Breaks when I was attending the U of MN. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Ya me too. I remember many summer pilgrimages to Windy Hills. We had a few family camping trips in the area and Dad would go junkyarding from there too. Oh the cars that place had. Quote
Ken Bartz Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Posted April 30, 2010 Young Ed, I did send you a PM that we were going to be in your area. Perhaps I did not send it correctly. The 52 Plymouth in the one picture did have a overdrive in it. Who ever took it did not get the OD cable nor the OD relay. I did..... Quote
Young Ed Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Never saw the PM. Oh well. Here are a few from my french lake trip a few weeks ago. FYI French lake pulls and sells all their ODs. Quote
John Reddie Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Oh boy, I love yards like this one. No more left like that here (MA). Do they have any ' 67 Plymouth Furys do you know? John R Quote
Young Ed Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Look through all my pictures http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v172/dodgepu1946/junkyard/French%20lake/ those are early ones then on the left are 2009 and 2010 links. Quote
DLK Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Ya me too. I remember many summer pilgrimages to Windy Hills. We had a few family camping trips in the area and Dad would go junkyarding from there too. Oh the cars that place had. Here in Minnesota it's nice you can crawl around these old relics and not worry about a nasty snakebite. When I needed a ring and pinion set for my DeSoto I just called and they located one that fit and pulled it for me. Quote
tinlizzy Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Man down here in my part of Tn just west of Bristol speedway these yards are all gone. We just came back from trip to fairy stone state park in Va. and there were two old yards there even with model A cars. Of course dumb me never had a camera with me. One old chrysler 2 door sedan mid fifties right on edge of road. This is near Stuart, Va. if anyone needs a trip for something to do. Lee Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 the two 52's, I sure would like to have a good hood from a 51/52...each of mine will require some extensive repairs...so far though none local to be had...shipping ould be out of the question on one I am sure...have torch so will stay home I guess..split rear window for my Suburban would be a nice feature..my area is so old car repressed it is not funny... BobT-47P15 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Speaking of shipping of large parts (which has been discussed before) does anyone know if Greyhound will simply transport the item (for example, a fender or trunk lid) without being packaged --- with only a shipping label attached? Quote
PatS.... Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I had a fender for the '49 shipped via UPS a few in '06 from Oregon to Canada. Trouble free and no damage. Just had an old fridge box bent around it and taped. The "box" made it harder to handle than if it was just shipped bare with a label but... Quote
