Shel,

I've replaced a number of windows in my '48 P-15 and they're not too difficult to get in-and-out, but best of all they're cheap because of the flat glass. Consider this a kick in your pants to get inspired to replace everything that doesn't please you (eventually; not all at once) and you'll be surprised at how little it will take for you to find faults and fix them. That's what I did with my '48 and now there's tinted glass all around for only a few bucks more than clear glass goes for.

As I mentioned to RobinUK in a different post, I am not one to philosophize about clouds and silver linings but what better way to become inspired to replace some ratty glass than to chuck a good stone through it? Good luck, although with this job you shouldn't need any.

The Cadillaci in picture 3 is going to need all the "full service" it can get. Hard to believe these were once someone's pride and joy that they had paid lots of hard earned cash for. Again, thanks for posting!

these old cars are not junk anymore. like shel says, there is some gold in there somewhere. i have an old vert and i know that if the bows break they are hard to repair and hard to find replacements. the convertible top frames are always worth something to someone. i would love to have an extra for my car but they are too rare. capt den

What is also hard to believe is that they are worth buying, but there must be some gold in there somewhere.

Absolutely agree. The Caddy has the bows, bumper parts, one OK looking door, trunk. Guy just needs to know how to market them if he is in the selling business. Ebay is one good source but there are lots of others for sellers.

Questions to seller? Has it ever been smoked in? Does it look as good in person as in the pics? Has it ever been in an accident?

Dear Flatie: It was smoking when parked. There is only one rust hole in the floor (size of a barn). The only accident I know was when I bought it.

I see a few of these about now and then..man has got a decent looking one about 25 miles from here..see it as I cruise to Lou Earle and back now and then..wife and I saw another not long back as we were just north of Atlanta picking up a large item..they look ok but standard big boat floater fo the period...the early 50's was an ugly time for the most part..yeah..I know..that means I have a few ugly cars...anyway..most own one of the 50 for sentimental reason more than most any other I think..beside they being dirt cheap to buy...

With that kinda honesty you wouldn't make much of a car salesman. lol:)

A salesman can be caught a lie just once - the last one.

Yep. I know the pain - ugly old cars. For my part I have a couple of new sleek European family cars to ease the pain.

When I drive those plastic cups five days a week, I'll have power enough to stand the ugliness of old american car for the Saturday. Sunday I rest and stare at the screen. Bless us all.

Ya know I've seen all these shows on tv where they bring in a car and "Overhaul it". They have all these profesionals jump on it and restore or restomod it in two weeks. Then they say how bad it is and the parts cars are in better shape. I look at the cars and they look pretty solid to me. I think they get spoiled workin on all those rust free California bodys. I'd like to see 'em fix something like that Caddie above. What about it Foose, could you and the master craftsmen take that car and fix it? I'd like to see that show. We've got an old saying in the shop at work. Anybody can replace parts but it takes a real maintenance man to fix the parts you have. I know that car is beyond logically fixing it'd just be cool to see' em do it.:)

two weeks huh maybe they could get my car done in time for my wedding. Its sure not gonna happen with just me working on it.

where is the reality in that show...the overhead and cost of that car is beyond economical reason to the average man...everything is dished and diced and served to umpteen crafts/trade shops...prearranged to ensure dedicated manpower to support the show...in other words...it does not happen in the real world..these shows and magazines is listed under "Fairtale Theater" on my TV guide...

What would happen if they "stole" your car and done it all up and you didn't approve? The only thing the shows got going for it is the cute brunett it tight jeans.

"Overhaulin". I record the show then every once in a while I take a quick look at the before and after pictures. The rest is a waste of time. I agree, easy to cut away the old and weld/bolt in the new.

I have a few cracks in my front windshields. What does the law say about that. I would like to keep them, more 'old school' than nice new ones.

Sounds like there needs to be a "thrash" -- a group getting together

to work on your car. If I were closer, would be glad to help out.

I agree 100% with all the previous speakers. Therefore I made a sticker to prevent such incidents. Feel free to use in your vehicles:
