Don Coatney Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Did you use a sniper program and bid the ammount you wanted to pay? If so you have no room to complain. Quote

greg g Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 fair and just on e bay, maybe 5 years ago but not recently. You can get the same maifold from Summit racing for around 300 bucks. Not in the catalog but call them. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Nope I just guest at it like most fair and just people would. Then you have no room to complain. There are a lot of fair and just people on the bay. But the winners are the ones who dont bid early and often. And the winners are fair and just people. They just know how the system works. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Nope I just guest at it like most fair and just people would. Where have you been on my auctions! I sold an NOS tire valve for 68 after the 2 prior went for 168 and 180 Quote

Ok Dude for one I did not complain and your insinuations are unwarrented. I merely stated My sadness that I did not win. I personaly thought I posted a fair price 3X the listing price. I have been buying stuff on e bay since it's inception. secondly even at the winners price it was a good deal in my book considering the reproductions sell for 300 ballpark. If this is the kind of feedback I can expect to get from this forum then to heck with it. Best of luck to all and thanks for all the knowlege you have given me. Quote

Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 The reason he got that type of feedback was from this "Nope I just guest at it like most fair and just people would." This makes it sound like those of us that use sniper programs are not fair and just. Now I can't say if it was intentional but I also took it that way. I use a snipe program too and love it. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) no one is singling you or the particular bid out and to feel that way would be little quick to react..ah but the one that got away..E-bay is a fickle date..no matter how much attention you pay the ole girl...it all boils down to "gotta pay to play" and there is oft times no rhyme or reason for the prices..today high, tomorrow a give away..listing price is there to keep the insertion fee lower...the advice/comment either way you see it is simply put as really the only way to play the game. Bid what you think is fair..win good..lose..then wait till another one comes by at your price. To enter into the frenzy of bid early bid often does just what that listing intended..run the bid up which is great for the seller and e-bay themselves. Like Don, I use a sniper bid..pay what I think is fair..go on down the road...even with this I lose bids..but I don't care a bit one way or the other as if it went over what I was willing to pay..then so be it...if it is a gotta have item then they pretty much have you from the get go..dicipline in bidding can be tough when you see a item you would like to have...but the list of bidders with buyer remorse after a bidding frenzy is full of successful buyers. Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Tim good example of pay to play. Listed that dell laptop last night and because of the emails I got quickly added a buy it now price of 1000. One person who had asked if there was a buy it now before I added it came and tried to offer 900. By the time I saw that email someone else bought it and paid the full price for it. Then he sent me an email saying someone else bought it now what can we do? Of course the answer is nothing. He snoozed he loses. Edited February 23, 2010 by Young Ed Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Sounds like you did well with the laptop...as your listing proves, when it comes right down to it..either you run with the big dogs or stay on the porch with the puppies Quote

Wow...I just don't see why you got bent out of shape over the comments posted. They were perhaps a little sarcastic, with a bit of a good humor jibe to them, but not mean or spiteful at all. I know postings can sometime be read differently then what the poster intended, punctuation and such can sometimes cause the reader to "read" more into it then was original intended. Sorry you feel this way and I hope you stay around and post some more. Edited February 23, 2010 by thrashingcows Quote
David Strieb Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Please don't quote me for something I didn't post, I was just agreeing with the author of the thread. Perhaps some of the miscommunication on this forum is because the threads aren't read entirely before being replied to. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I've missed several things on ebay-----some may have been won by snipers; some just by regular bidding. I have lately been usnig their "maximum bid" service - putting in my top dollar I'm willing to pay. Because your automated next bid comes back to zing the new bidder, I think it discourages some before too many more bids. But, if the guy wants the item worse than me, and is willing to pay more than me - so be it. He wins. There have been times I wished I'd bid just a bit more maximum, but, ah well ----- Rather amazing what some old Mopar parts have been bringing on there. If you make a practice of watching the type of item you want for a while, you can perhaps get a feel for the amount they generally go for. It sounds like that manifold was a good buy at about half what a new one costs. Kinda tough to get a "steal" some days, especially on a popular part. Quote

I've missed some real deals over a couple bucks but you never know what the other bidders Max is going to be OR if the sniper is coming at the last second. I too like to watch the item I'm interested in, get a feeling for what they go for and then sit back and bid my max and wait to win. Sometimes I get the item right away, sometimes I have to bid on 6 or more till I finally get one for what "I" wanted to pay. Quote
LuckyDevil Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Here is a brand new one from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/OFY-2691/ P.S. Those of you who don't have anything positive to reply, should just sit back and relax until you can think of something nice to say. "Pay to play"? Kiss my rear, some of us still try to save a buck when we can, otherwise we would just pay somebody to build our car for us. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Nothing wrong with trying to save a buck but don't whine when it doesn't work. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 amen Ed..I would venture to say that we all try to make our dollar go as far as possible when working on our rides..but it does boil down to supply and demand...there was nothing negative in the Pay to Play comment..items of this nature always seems to fetch a goodly sum...that fact really need to be taken into account when bidding...and as far as sitting back and relaxing, I do and I also get to laugh out loud a lot also...if everything came to you without a bit of effort or beating the bushes..you probaly building a brand x car..where is the fun in that? Quote
Captain Neon Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 If I REALLY need it, i.e. car won't run without it, then I get what I need and buy it from the guys who stock it. If it is something that I can live without, but think might be nice to have, well, then I've learned patience is a virtue and I wait until I find it at the price I am willing to pay. Lots of things I've picked up over the years, and lots of other things that I've bid on and not gotten. As Norm pointed out to us all often enough, it's a hobby, something we do for enjoyment. Quote
Greenbomb Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Dang! All this time I thought it was "Buy High, Sell Low"! Quote
