moose Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 The Alter Boys Jalopy Jamboree is this Saturday the 26th in Natick MA at the Amvets Hall. Is anybody planning on going to this? It's always a must do event for me. Lots of period hot rods, nice pre '60 restored cars too. Last year I met up with Rebecca(n1gzd) and she already emailed me that she's going. She's going to bring her '36. I'm going to be there in my '55. Any body else from the area want to meet up with us and show some flathead 6 pride? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Just a bit far for me, Moose. My mother grew up in that area, so I've heard of the town. It appears I'll be taking the convert this weekend to Neosho, MO as part of my wife's 50 year class reunion. They wanted to make a float to take to the local football game, but that didn't get accomplished. So, I'm making some signs to attach to the sides of the car and it will be the "substitute float" for the Class of 59. Have a good time, and take some pics. Quote
moose Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Have a good time, and take some pics. I will definitely take pictures, but I bet Rebecca will beat me out on that. I'm still trying to figure how to get my A to the show. It's ready to drive there and I have confidence that it will make it, but I am still missing one part--I haven't gotten my title back from Alabama yet. No registration means no driving:( I have a friend with a ramp truck, so maybe mine will be a trailer queen:confused: Quote
Young Ed Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Pull it behind the 55 that would make quite an entrance Quote
moose Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Been there, done that. That hitch isn't on there anymore though. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Too bad that would be neat. I had to tow my old truck to the first show I brought it to for the same reason. I unloaded it around on the other side of the building and drove it into the show. No one ever knew Quote

No registration means no driving:( I have a friend with a ramp truck, so maybe mine will be a trailer queen:confused: Well, the saga continues... I just got a call from the title company. He said they sent out a completed title to me this morning. Should be here on Monday:( Looks like I'll have to borrow that ramp truck. Quote
roofdown Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Unfortunately, my D19 isn't rolling yet...maybe I'll catch the next one since it's only a few miles from my house. I'm taking my 2yo daughter to "Touch A Truck Day" at the same time on Saturday, but maybe we can turn it into "Touch a Classic Car Day"....not sure my wife will go for that though. Hmmm. Quote
moose Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 There'll probably be trucks there too:D Quote
greg g Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Good luck getting the mopar A on the road. Enjoy if it happens. I had a ride in member John Burkes Desoto flattie powered A roadster, quite a treat, thing had a lot of get up and go running through a GM 350 Hydro. His exhaust set up was similar to yours. the sensory experience was heightend by the fact that most of the roads around his Nebraska abode are gravel. Nothin like an unfendered rod on a dirt road. moose Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Just got the final word from my ramp truck friend... The Mopar A IS going to the show!!!!!! Quote
moose Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 I got to the show! I didn't drive it there but I got it there, and I drove it through the gates. Had the caps off the headers, creeping along revving it and turning heads. Awesome! Getting it done enough to drive was my goal, and I made it! My wife drove my '55 in behind me. That was cool. Then that's my son Henry showing off the car. He loves it! Then Henry and his sister Lucy climbing around inside(don't worry they both have current tetanus shots!) The last is the plaque they gave me. Alter Boys choice 2009:cool: Quote
Niel Hoback Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Congratulations. Good job, you should feel very proud of a major accomplishment. Imagine making your own car out of a bunch of parts and then driving it around! Once again, I am jealous. I can hear your kids in school, "My dad made a car and we rode in it!" Quote

Imagine making your own car out of a bunch of parts and then driving it around! Once again, I am jealous. I can hear your kids in school, "My dad made a car and we rode in it!" Thanks Neil, I am very proud! I have been beaming all day today too. I haven't given any rides yet, there's no backseat and so far my kids like the car better when it's not running... I need to tell BobT thanks because when I first brought this up on here, I wasn't really sure if I could get it done in time. He said he was sure I could do it, and that really pushed me along and helped a lot. And Thanks shel bizzy for the driveshaft. Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Just wonderful, the best are the shots of your kids:) Quote
Normspeed Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 That's really neat! Not only got it to the show, running, but also won a plaque. Are those rims Mopar artillery rims? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 All Right, Moose!!!!! Way to go!!!!!! I knew you could do it. Congrats on the placque......looks like they recognized some good and interesting work on your car.:) Quote
moose Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Those are 36 Plymouth wheels. Just like Rebecca's. Her car is beautiful. Thanks again Bob. Quote
n1gzd_plymouth Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Here are the pics that I took: http://www.pangalacticconsortium.com/cars/CarEvents2009/AlterBoys/index.html I got a lot of pics of Moose's cool A (and his cool 55). Rebecca Quote
n1gzd_plymouth Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 By the way, I have noticed that in the last few years there seems to be an renewed appreciation for inline engines. Rebecca Quote
moose Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) renewed appreciation for inline engines. I feel like a trend setter:D It was great to see you Rebecca. Awesome pictures. Glad you made it home OK-before dark! Edited September 28, 2009 by moose___ awesome pictures Quote
Normspeed Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Moose, after all the chevy-in-a-ford and ford-in-a-chevy combos, a Mopar flat six in a model A is for sure a trend setter. Yours and John Burke's are about the only ones I know of. Sadly, like tractor grilles on hot rods, by this time next year everyone will have one. The price of setting trends. Just kidding. Edit: Rebecca, that's a nice slide show program you have. Great pics. Quote

Well, it was kind of dark when I arrived in Lawrence. I picked my husband up in Acton on the way back to Lawrence because he said that he wanted a ride in my car. I think that he was a little spooked by the lighting situation. I am going to improve it this winter. I wonder if I can get halogen bulbs for my headlights. Rebecca Quote
