47heaven Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Just picked up a oil bath for the P15, but it didn't have an assembly to motor brace with it. Does anyone out there have an extra brace that you don't want or maybe even a pic with specs so I can maybe have one fabricated? Thanks, Darin Quote

greg g Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Here is a picture of the oone on normscoupe. should be easy to build from flatstock from the hardware store. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 The P15 one does have a hook for the throttle return spring. Otherwise I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to fab one. Another thing. Not all oil baths are created equal. I spent quite a bit of time painting one of the 2 that came with my car. When I went to install it the bolt hole in the brace was no where near the bolt hole in the air cleaner. As I know the owner of my car also had a 50 ply I suspect thats what it was. Quote

A future POC pres should have known this. You are slipping Young Ed. You need more training:cool: Quote
Young Ed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I learned my lesson and passed it on to others. Someone has to learn them. Now if only I could have caught Oldmanmike before he lost his gastank ferrule....... Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 It's actually not necessary, the brace. I've been running mine without one ever since I switched to a L-6 mill from a '56 Dodge. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I haven't been using the brace on my P15 engine. So far, nothing drastic has happened. Quote
Normspeed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 The P15 one does have a hook for the throttle return spring. I think Darin could use the return spring hook. As I recall, the last time I saw his motor, we did a Mickey Mouse throttle return spring that hooked to the spark plug wire bracket. Could use the correct setup. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Darin I've parted out 2 p15s both of which had an engine but I just can't recall if either still had the brace. I'll look for you though Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I have seen the brace where it has a V-notch for the return spring, others with a eye built into it..and others without any spring at all and using alternative return spring connections Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Well.... from what I understand the brace is just for added stability 'cause the oil bath unit is top heavy. Tom Quote
47heaven Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 Darin' date='If you end up making the brace, you could weld a return spring hook onto it, or simply drill a hole in it to hook the spring onto.[/quote'] No, not yet. Waiting to hear from Ed to see if he has one, first. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 I am not running an oil bath air cleaner but I cut my bracket short just so I could use the throttle return spring clip. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Darin I looked through my stuff and couldn't find one. Must have been missing from both the p15s I parted. Quote
