JerseyHarold Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Someone responded to an online ad I'm running for a fender. The only problem is, he's several states away from here. I'm deciding whether I want to get involved. I know others on the board have had good luck with Greyhound, but I don't think there is a terminal anywhere near where I live. Is one shipper (like UPS or Fedex) easier to deal with than another as far as packing is concerned? Do you have to wrap it in order to ship it, or will a label be good enough? Any thoughts appreciated. I want to let him know my decision in a few days. Harold Quote
oldmopar Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I sent some fenders through fed ex you can get a price quote on line. Send me a pm if you want the details Ed Quote
PatS.... Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I had a front fender for a 49 Chrysler shipped via FedEx from Idaho to Canada. No hassles at all. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I sent some fenders through fed ex you can get a price quote on line. Send me a pm if you want the detailsEd I believe I was the/a receipient of those fenders and they arrived safely. Quote
oldmopar Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I believe I was the/a receipient of those fenders and they arrived safely. Yes and there must be a lot of rusty fenders up your way I recently sent a set of rear fenders for a 52 plymouth to Michigan. Quote
greg g Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Got Greyhound or Trailways in your town?? They will ship wierd shaped stuff that will fit in the under floor baggabe compartments faily inexpensively. Your customer will need to go to the busdepot to pick up the item but is may save a considerable amt of money over FED up EX or UPS. Quote
james curl Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 UPS will require you to buy one of their boxes and they ship by volume as well as weight. I sent my Daughter some lampshades that she missed when she moved to NY,Ny and they charged by volume because the box was large but weighed almost nothing. Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I have an on line UPS and USPS account and print my own labels and use my own boxes. I usually cut them down if they are too big for the item cause that does save a little $. Quote
RobertKB Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I have had good luck shipping with Greyhound. Doors, transmission, steering column, etc. They are cheaper that UPS or Fedex. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Go Greyhound. I had three doors shipped to me here in Virginia from Colorado. $220 bucks or so. All you have to do is meet your package at the bus station. Quote
dezeldoc Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Greyhound, sent 2 37 ford fenders to pa. cost something like 65 each. there were fronts not rears, ups wanted 250 each fed ex was right there with them. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 I checked Greyhound and their nearest terminal is 45 miles from here. I work right near a Fedex terminal with a customer window so that would be a lot easier....although more expensive...the trick is finding a good-sized box. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 For the 2 fenders I bought from the other Ed I don't think fedex was that much more. I got front fenders shipped from CA vie greyhound for just under 50 each and the back ones from jersey via fedex were about 60 each. Quote
