I own a piece of property in a place called Green Valley (CA). There is a city ordnance that you can not cut down the oak trees. There are some perfectly good plots of land that are useless because there is an oak tree right in the middle of the property.

Living out in the desert we treasure the trees and the shade they provide.

a couple weeks ago I had cut some overbearing trees at my sisters in Toronto her neibours liked it so much they asked if I could cut 4 at their house Pay was good, I mean real good....before I had the 4'th one cut I had 10 more to do in the same neibourhood all paying real good.... I was filling out order sheets for Chrysler parts that first night the world was a beautiful place untill the next day when the lady from 4 houses away started yelling at me for cutting trees and sicked the bylaw officer on me.

I wonder what enviro lady from down the road is doing with her garbage now that there is a strike....probably putting it in a park or something.

Last winter I was driving a few miles from home on a back road, no one lives near by this location.

I saw a number of small Spruce trees growing in the bush along the ditch, so I snapped a small spindly one off, brought it home for the kids, kinda like a Charlie Browm Xmas tree, was kept outside in front of the house.

This weekend some guy comes to my house and asks me if I did that last winter, I told him yes, he says some buddy of his drove by and saw me do this. I apologize and offer to pay him, he doesn't want to be paid, but stands on my driveway going on and on, so Wife gets mad and tells him enough already we offered to pay you, we have apologized what more do you want.

I would never have done this, except it looked like public land or abandoned land, no house/buildings nothing, gotta watch what you do these days, will never do this again.

This guy did not seem all there , if you know what I mean.....Frdd

Why not? I'm not the only one who talks about him that way.:D All four of us who border his yard talk about him the same way. Plus at least two who don't border his yard. When the guy comes over from across the street in my backyard he always ask. When is your neighbor going to cut his grass. Even the neighbor on the east side says the same thing almost weekly.

I'm guessing that my neighbours say the same 'bout me. In my defence, however, the PO did a poor job of controlling weeds. I killed off a lot of Creeping Charlie this spring and am now trying to get grass to grow in all of the bare spots. I have to wait until the grass seedlings are sufficiently established before mowing. Overseeding the thin areas w/ Kentucky bluegrass at the same time. I am now seeing all of the quack and crab grasses that were never well-controlled. By the time the snow flies, I will have probably spent over $1000 on fertiliser, herbicide, and grass seed. Hate to attack the quack grass before bare spots are filled-in with healthy grass, esp. since the herbicides that control rough grasses prevent all grass seeds from sprouting.

Kill the Quack/crap grasses, weeds first, you should hit all the area with Round -up first, then some topsoil and seed.

I have found to control broadleaf weeds , dandelions, clover, plantain, I use Par 3 or premium 3-way, both commerical/farm herbicides.

I know of nothing that kills the rough grasses, except round-up, which of course will kill all grasses.

The broadleaf herbicides do not kill the quack grass.

Unless you know of something that kills the rough grasses, without harming the lawn grasses. I have a 2.5 acre yard, 3/4 is grass, so it always a battle....Fred

Darn neighbors, how dare they cut down their own tree without consulting you Norm. They at least could of hired someone to do a survey to see how the absence of the tree would afect shading on your property. Some people only think of themselves it seems these days.

I had lots of luck with this and similar products. It must be a Canadian thing that you can't get crabgrass control products. Perhaps you could have a bustling business smuggling small quantities across the border for personal use. :)
