greg g Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Think of it as a gasket, keeping the dirty wet environmental stuff under the car, and the shiney stuff on top clean. also keeps the body sections from squeeking when flexing. BobT-47P15 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I think the Special Deluxe models had the chrome looking welt. Not sure about the cheaper Deluxe. There are several colors in vinyl welting today to choose from too. It needs to have plenty of notches in the material that goes between fender and body to allow for the bends. Quote

About the sun visor --- Chrysler has still done similar things lately.......like my wife's 2001 PT Cruiser.......it only has an armrest on the driver's seat. Young Ed Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Sure lots of street rodders. Some if they are lame just bondo over the seam after the fenders are bolted on. If you buy the vinyl stuff its cheap and pretty easy to install. Im sure a lot quicker then getting the fenders smoothly welded on. Quote

Lots of rod/custom jobs where the seam is filled. I think this one was filled in some manner...... Plymouthy Adams Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 bingo..! and they kinda dictated the rear lenses as for shape as I do like these all glass lenses...I gave frenching only a passing thought..as in I pass on any thought of frenching lights front or rear...lol I am getting closer on the remodel being complete..can't wait till I can get back to the shop on the cars..even if just to lay on the floor looking up imagining what I need to do next.. desoto1939 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I have used the newere vynal fender welting for several reasons. 1. This asct as an anti squeek between the fender and the body. 2. If you get wax on the vynal it will not stain like the original 3. The original being cloth soaks up the water and this then cause the inner fender where it mounts to the body to start to rust. 4. If you get polish onthe cloth it stays white and you can not get it off. 5. Most fender welting ways always black expect for the chrome SS style. 6. For judging the welt is black and sohould not be painted. 7. It always looks good and keeps its apperance 8. Ihave had mine on my 39 Desoto for 12 years and it has not changed color and is stillin perfect condition. 9 being simi rigid you can work with this very easily. rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
