Mike 1948 1Ton Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Ok, this might be a dumb question, but does anybody's truck have the shift pattern on the shift knob? I know mine is a 4 speed and I know the pattern, but did the trucks come with it printed on the know and it had now worn off, are there any sources/replacements out there? Thanks Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I think you were just expected to know. Only place I've seen them printed in an old truck is on a plate on the dash. Even that for dodges only seems to be on the military stuff or the power wagons with extra levers. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 The 4 speed in my truck has a plain black knob. However, the 4 speed That I have from a B3C truck has a knob with the pattern on it. I was thinking of swapping knobs just for the look. I know the pattern, but thought it might look better. Merle Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 My 52 4 speed knob has the pattern on the knob but it is very worn. Not sure that it's stock. Quote
Byronb3b Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I once drove a '47 Dodge school bus whith a Pacific Coach body (KW) that had the shift pattern on the stock rubber boot at the base of the stick, hard to see in the dark !! Quote
KJ's Dodge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 My 1948 B1-RA with a five speed has the pattern on the boot at the floor. KJ Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 One nice thing about having no shift pattern on the knob or elsewhere is. It makes a nice anti theft device. If the thief has to fumble around finding the right gears, he's probably going to give up. Or, he'll get caught fumbling around with it, trying to figure it out. Quote

Mario Loya B1B Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Between the foot stomp starter, throttle and choke knob, no shift pattern, and the double clutch requirement, I have all the theft deterrent that i need Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Between the foot stomp starter, throttle and choke knob, no shift pattern, and the double clutch requirement, I have all the theft deterrent that i need I was thinking the same thing, Mario. Quote
buds truck Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Between the foot stomp starter, throttle and choke knob, no shift pattern, and the double clutch requirement, I have all the theft deterrent that i need more effective than the "club" too. Quote
Allen I. Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 That is why I opted for the anti-theft 3 on the tree. Now THAT really complicates things for someone looking for P R N D somewhere on the column or dash. Quote
MBF Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Yup-if a guy successfully steals a PH truck with all of the eccentricities (foot starter, 3 on tree or floor, manual choke, etc) we can tell the police: "I didn't see him, but I'll bet he's got gray hair and a pot belly. I know he's at least middle aged". And even if he got a 20 minute head start at wide open throttle he'd only be down the road a piece.... Mike Quote
carl b51 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 One thing that is a better deterrent than all that is the truck-o-matic. Try to find first gear oh ya ! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 One thing that is a better deterrent than all that is the truck-o-matic. Try to find first gear oh ya ! Truck-O-Matic --any fool thief can steal one-they can take of in any gear. They just need to figure out the rest of the shifting! Bob Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Mike, Your post really cracked me up. From start to finish. Your signature line about buffalo wings is great! Quote
Dennis_MN Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) Between the foot stomp starter, throttle and choke knob, no shift pattern, and the double clutch requirement, I have all the theft deterrent that i need When I brought my truck in to have the radial tires installed, the oldest guy in the shop sent a kid out to move that "ol Dodge" in. They rolled in laughter when he told him the key didn't have a start position, so they told him about the starter on the floor and sent him out again. Then he had no clue about reverse so finally the old guy moved it in. Dennis Edited May 14, 2009 by Dennis_MN fix the english Quote
