I was just daydreaming. Has anyone ever turbocharged one of our straight sixes? Just wondering if it's been done, and if not why? I know there is always the discussion about bottom end strength, cylinder thickness, # of headbolts etc...My 51 is the first car I've owned of this vintage, so I'm trying to educate myself. Everything I've owned has been 60's era..

Here's the link for the Studebaker guys running a turbo flat 6 on the salt flats. Lots of neat pics under the links on the left of the page.

I would almost venture to say that if a turbo was listed for sale on the bay for this application then he was passing on a setup not proven. Any successful application and eventual setup be "kitted"...would be a money maker. In my own opinion, the odds is that the deal was not that much of a deal...installing a turbo is a bit more involved than just running a bit of exhasut ducting..

I have two turbo units here at the house...exhaust flanges, the whole nine yards...any takers?

The one that was one ebay was a suck through unit, not a blow through. It used an industrial exhaust manifold (blows upward) and ford turbo coupe hair dryer set on it. It looked like a nice little setup actually, I got outbid on it. Need a touch of refining, but the idea had potential for a good low-boost unit for a stock CR motor, provided you could get past the lean bog condition you *will* get with that setup. I'vethough about giving it a whirl myself, but my junk is running too good right now to mess with.

After seeing the pistons and rods on these motors I don't think they will take much boost. I would be afraid to run over 4-5lbs. Tim what make and size turbos you got? Looking at making a setup for a slant 6.
