I took my Trans am in for some bumper painting the other day. The bumpers are plastic, mordern era. I have owned my TA since the beginning. The whole bit car of my dreams, If I got this Mom I would not ask for anything else.:) Graduation day I got my car. I have had it in the bad times (gas crisis) the good times. When I got married my wife thought mybe we need a family car. So we go out and buy a Buick" for her"

My friends always have the story " oh yeah when I got married I got rid of my car" Oh yeah to bad, Not me. I even put my car up for a while like 11 years. I think about 6 years ago my wife says let's put the pontiac back on the road so I uncover it and start bringing it back to life.

Fast forward to last month, the car was really in good shape just needed some touch up. I leave my car with the two day paint boys at $%$#@#. I go to check up on it and hese idiots have sanded my whole car, not to mention my hood bird:eek: I can't believe it. You know the problem was comunication. So now They want to fix every rust spot so they can give an all over paint job. 1,800 they must have bumped there head:mad: I went in and did all the body work. I am not going to touch the hood. They will do that, I ordered anew bird and will change the color slightly. total cost 200.00 the price of the bumper repair. I need to take my medicine my pressure, my pressure!:mad:Transam78003.jpg

$1,800 doesn't sound so bad. Here's my sons 80 Firebird that he's owned since about 1985. He was involved in a bad accident in 1988 (T-boned in the drivers side) that made the insurance company total it out due to cost of repair. He bought it back and had it rebuilt. Then in the late 90's he gutted the car and restored it again to what you see in the picture. All new stuff inside too. Last year a rock flew up and hit the windshield and cracked it while he was on the freeway. When they removed the windshield to replace it, he found a small rust spot in the windshield channel about the size of a nickle. So........last October he took it all apart again and sent it to the body shop to have it completely stripped again and repainted. It's still in the body shop, they just got the primer on it last week. Said he should have it back before it gets warm.

Rodney, what did you need to do for body work, how did these guys go crazy with a DA sander?

It's amazing what can happen to someone's car unless you are watching every step of the way.

So when will this car be fixed up again?

My condolences Rodney. They have trashed an original, one owner car. :( . The idiots out there just keep multiplying.

I'm surprised that you didn't sign some type of contract befor the work. At Maco they really get into paper work but you know looking at your car I'm glad I had it painted there. Jon

Too bad, Rodney. I would be really p***ed if it was my car. How can anyone do that? I think there are some chromosones out there that those boys had better be looking for.

Yep that was pretty bad alright. Hope they do a good job of painting your car.

I once had a friend who took his volkswagon in for a tune up and when he came back to get it the garage had pulled out the engine!!!!!!!!! Now there also was a problem.

Rodney;

You have more cars than the law allows. Reason for this law is obvious from your posting. Send me 1/3 of your car inventory to save yourself from further litigation. Once I receive your total inventory list I will specify what cars to send me. Do this quickly to avoid further financial complications.

Rodney,

Take lots of pictures to document this fiasco. You may need them for evidence if things don't go right with the bodywork.

I think Rodney mentioned he did took over the body preppping, except the hood.

Rodney, does this shop belong to a friend or people you have known a long time?

I just hope your happy with the end result, if they go this far and it turns out crappy.... then what do you do the reason I mention this. My brother had his very sentimental truck painted a few years back and they painted it 3 times before he brought it home still looking crappy, he mentions this experance often. Good luck with it. I love this model TA every time I see one I think of Sammy Hagar, The song "Baby's on Fire" :D

Yes, sent away for the bird and the decals:) i'm not mad I will pay 200.00 dollars and they will repaint and put the decals back on. No big deal;) I wanted to change the color to a more bright gold one day anyway. I did all the body work with good products so the rust will not come back. I might prep the hood as my scoop needs to be tightened up. It's attached to the hood(bright Idea I got as a young person) that's why they call it a shaker hood. I thought the car was out of tune because I could see the scoop moving  young folks you got to love them .

WELL i would have removed my car immediately after i saw what they had done & i would never had let those idiots near my car ever again ,, this is why i don`t let anyone near my stuff !!! Then when i was released from prison for killing everyone there & burning down their business , i would have their dead bodies in court for destroying my collector item car one owner unrestored!!!, i would seek full value of the car as it will never be original again then try and put it it back together myself ,, and the sad thing is with so many people out of work THESE A%^$#$%`S HAVE JOBS ???? MAY YOUR CAR RIP,,, I will send 10 PLAYBOY BUNNIES to your house immediately to help you recover ,,, CHANCE

From my perspective I see lots of problems with this. was it factory paint or a repaint they messed up? looks like a repaint. those birds had a habit of leaving a rust ring around the edge of the decal and on some of the feathers. second is the mirror gaskets, door handles, window felt and a few other parts that should come off so as to get paint under them and not have a masking line. I would make sure they use the best paint they have, after all it was their fault. just my .02, Mike

My bird and decals came in today so I think we are ready to start the restoring process. I did pick a color not to different from the gold that's fantastic. I can't wait to see it finished.:D Let's not get real made at them, instead let's make lemonade.:D

Like I said I really like this model t/a.When I was in the 6th grade,I think it would have been around '81 I walked to school and on the way there was a blue'79 model I passed every day.It had a set of wide aluminum wheels and tinted widows, just had a cool look about it. I never saw it move! It's still in the same spot as it was then.I tried to buy it a few years ago, no one would come to the door when I knocked and never could catch anybody to ask.Brand new tires rotted down, the head liner has fell no rust yet but the sun has really done a number on it.It can't have many miles on it, I've always wondered what the story was on it. I might see if I can do a drive by with the camera and post a pic of it.
