BobT-47P15 Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Well, we gotta play music tonite at the club - they're fixing corned beef and cabbage, having a green beer special, and entertainment by me and Max. Presumably it will be fun. For those with a more bah-humbug outlook, you could build a copy of this leprechaun trap............ Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 ah yeah...wear green..the other yearly event where I put mistletoe on my rear belt loop to convey that special message to all... Quote

Merle Coggins Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Yes, Happy St. Patty's Day. Plus it is my dear old Grandmother's 92nd birthday today. Happy B-day Grandma. Merle Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 speaking of b-days..this is also my sister's b-day.. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Guys, Should you wear green or orange for St. Pat's Day? It does make a difference, depending on what type of Irishman you are. That said, I have about 1/4 Irish in me. What color did I wear today? Blue. That's because I was born American, not Irish. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Today I met this really good looking lady. I asked her if she had any Irish in her. She said no. So I asked her if she wanted some. I have never been slapped so hard in all my Irish years:p Quote
RobertKB Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Orange is worn by Ulstermen of Northern Ireland on July 12 celebrating the Battle of the Boyne of 1690. Not celebrated in the rest of Ireland. Hopefully the troubles are over and not starting up again in the Emerald Isle. http://www.irelandseye.com/aarticles/history/events/dates/ch5.shtm Quote
Frank Elder Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I have Tannehill coursing through my veins, so like Tim I have a shirt that reads, Kiss my a$$, it's Irish too! Quote
Captain Neon Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Norm, I wore orange today. I'm not for sure, but we think my family came to America after the Irish uprising of 1798. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I come from a line of Orangemen. Hurrah for good King Billy ! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Ben, I really don't know what part of Ireland the relatives came from on my dad's side. The court house burned down years ago that stored my great, grandparents birth certificates. So.........sort of ran into a dead in there for that part of the family. Just know they were Irish. Quote
Captain Neon Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 I can trace to a great-great-great-grandfather that fought as a Yankee Cavalryman in Missouri during the War Between the States. Then the trail goes cold. His father died when he was very young so he only knew that his father was born in New York. No record of his father's first name. We speculate that we are even Irish, but the other option is old New York money. We are blue-collar folk so we suspect Irish ancestry. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Ben, Either that, or your ancestor's spent your inheritance. That's what we keep telling our kids. We're spending their inheritance. Guess I should have said my great, great grandfather was Irish. His wife was Cherokee Indian. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 man..either you look young for your age or your g-g-grandad was old when he served...I have the civil war muster card for my great grandfather that served in the CSA 57 Va Inf... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Don..I mentioned muster cards..on one I found that G-granddad had been a POW..I used the info from the muster card and the VA to sent me a 400 lb headstone for his gravesite...It took some time to find his place of burial and no one in my immediate family was of any help..was a treat for me and my son to drive all the way to WV with this stone and place it on his gravesite...Had a few other relatives ride along with us...
