H Suhling Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Has anybody had their radios rebuilt? And if so who did it. Need to get one rebuilt. Harvey Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 There is a guy that has a good shop in Rockwell City, IA. I'll have to look it up tomorrow. I'll get back to you. Quote
Zeke1953 Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Expensive, but good. http://www.oldradiodoc.com/ Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Harvey I used Jims radio shop in Breeze Ill for mine. Quote
H Suhling Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 Thanks for the replies. Harvey Quote
H Suhling Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 Phil What I have in mind is having a new radio built inside the existing case which would give me the original look with new tunes. Can Jim's Radio Shop do this or does he just repair the existing radio. Harvey Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 He has an ad in hemmings, I think he converts them too. He's close to home and a nice guy. If you talk to him on phone sounds old but not. Quote
pflaming Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 After getting my turn signal controller to work I am now going to see how far I can go with the radio. Next project. I will clean first, then check tubes, etc as I would a light bulb and connections. I am going to gamble that 80 % of radio repair is cleaning. Over a period of 50 years, dust and humidity make 'mud'!! I am guessing that that 'mud' slowly grounds out the elements until one does NOT work and the radio quits. . A new tube here and there and . . . who knows. Will report back in a week or so Quote
Zeke1953 Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 From what I found out when I had mine rebuilt, you need to check the vibrator and tubes. If all is well with those components, the old cardboard capacitors (?) are usually in need of replacement. A while back someone in the know volunteered to walk a novice through the process, but I can't remember who it was. Zeke Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 On mine he put in an electronic capacitor, changed all cardboard capacitors and cleaned it up. Works good still 6 volt am. $90 I'm sure he said he converts to 12 volt am-fm. Close to home so didn' have to worry about shipping. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Sorry, I couldn't find the address. Didn't mean to leave you hanging. Quote
villageidiot Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 All of the pictures that I have seen on this forum have a vertical style radio cut out on the dash. On my 51 3/4 ton, I have a horizontal opening. It seems to be factory. Was there a different style in 51? If so, does anyone know the type or part number so I can search for one? There are no signs of patchwork where the vertical opening should be and this is pretty well done. Thanks. Quote
villageidiot Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 great. It seems I have the elusive 610t. 2 parts to this radio it seems which makes it rare from what Reg has stated in another post. Love to get one if anyone knows how. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Dear idiot;) A MoPar model 607 or 609 radio will fit right into your factory dash cutout. These are pretty common radios and came in 51-53 Dodge and Plymouths. Zeke,on this forum, has the only 610T radio ever made and he ain't letting go of it. Quote
Zeke1953 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Amen to that, Reg. But it baffles me as to where the other 610T's went to. There's gotta be a few more out there somewhere. Zeke Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Dear idiot;) . Are U talkin to me? I resembelle that Quote
villageidiot Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks Reg. I will be back out in AZ next month and will scour my Granddad's boneyard. He has 2-3 part trucks laying around. I bought the 51 from him a few years back and just got it back to Iowa recently. He has had it since 52 and it was an everyday driver up to about 99. AZ heat finally caught up to him at age 79. He was looking for cool a/c after that. Can't say I blame him!! Maybe one will have a good radio or one that can be rebuilt. I am grabbing a hood ornament and windshield visor also while out there. Can't wait. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 The 610T radios are like unicorns and other mythical animals. Few people have really seen one and if they do, no one else believes 'em. Quote
deadbodyman Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 i found a radio for my 48 biz coupe,i dont even know if it works but im just useing the face to fill the holes in the dash cause they dont make tube cd players Quote
Jocko_51_B3B Posted December 25, 2015 Report Posted December 25, 2015 Does anyone have a comprehensive list of Mopar radios that will fit perfectly into the factory cutout for a 1951 B3B? So far I've read that the 610T, 607, and 609 will all fit exactly. Are there any others? Quote

So far I've read that the 610T, 607, and 609 will all fit exactly. Are there any others? The 607 or perhaps the 813 should work. Many of us talked about this last May here: http://p15-d24.com/topic/38627-b3-radio/page-5 I ordered some references that covered the radios for the 1951 dodge vehicles and attached the photos of the pages below.
