I was doing a bit of work on my P-15 lighted nose piece today and I noticed there was a special clip on the very front screw as pictured below. The other screws on my molested car do not have this clip. My question is should there be 3 of these clips?

When I took the nose piece off of my 48 D24 last summer to have the car painted I'm pretty sure that it had 3 clips like the one in your picture. -- That said, I'm not sure that means much, because the car had been painted at least twice before and includes parts from several cars. It is far from unmolested.

Can you check your parts book?

Don I went and looked at my spare hood ornament and it only has 1 also at the very front. Is that the same place yours was?

There's supposed to be one on each bolt. I think those are on there to act as spacers so it distributes the pressure when bolting down the hood ornament' date=' so the force isn't put all in one place on the pot metal.[/quote']

Got any pictures to prove it?

No, and I'm not going out there with the temperature around zero to take one right now. However, mine does have three. I replaced my hood ornament a few years ago with a rechromed one. I will look in the parts manual for you though to verify it, in a little while.

You gotta get going on those taxes instead of taking pictures. I had mine done a week ago.:) Just had to wait for one document so I can run them over to the accountant. Got that yesterday. I will confess though, I'm usually "last minute charlie" when it comes to getting them ready. The accountant may have a heart attack when I take them over this week. Usually he doesn't get them until about the first week of April.:D But.........he's always gotten them done and filed by the 15th.

Okay, the question is solved no matter how many people have different numbers of the clip Don shows.

The parts manual calls it a spacer like I thought it was. It says 3 spacers required. Found this on page #156 of the parts book. Plate #15-03-24, part number 972 893. On top of page left hand corner.

Now we don't need a picture. For what it's worth, the part is shown in a picture on page number 154, but you can only see one in the picture. Page 156 says how many are needed.

Don I gotta update my post here. I had to go outside for groceries so I took a peak at the crashed hood laying in the backyard. It has one of those U deals on the rear most bolt for the hood ornament.

My hood ornament is like yours Ed and only has one of those clips on it. The other two bolts just have regular washers on them. I can't remember though if the large clip goes at the front or the rear. I'm thinking the front, but I can't remember.

those were only put on on cars produced from late monday after noon till about 1:15 on friday. Your car must have been made near 1oclock on a friday. Also in the repainter manual it says to loose 1 or 2 if they are present.

That could explain a few things on my car. It was built by someone half asleep and worn out from overtime.
