Next time you see an item on the bay that you want be neighborly and post it on the forum so everyone can see it and bid on it. Active auctions should not be posted. The heads up should be in the form of a PM or E-mail not an open posting. If I am watching or sniper buiding on an item I do not want anyone to know so a bidding war will not start and drive the price sky high. So not posting active auctions is how we can help one another. The only mildly acceptable reason to post an active auction on this forum is if you are the seller. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I am not in the look out for an OD..have absolutely no need for one and have sold three of them that I have owned as they come in the cars when I purchased them... the active bidding alert should not really be posted as it is not fair to dump it on a forum of this size and special interest..first..the guy who wants one, but sits on the couch and does not actively search should not have it handed into his lap while the other guy who searches this out and tries to keep a lid on it as to get the best deal possible just got screwed.. grumpy..call it what you want but I refer to as being respectful to ALL members of this forum..If a member asks me to BOLO then I would PM him on the find...as in fact plenty of members have alerted me to items of interest the same way...e-bay is not new..am sure everyone here has an account...let them actively seek out what they want... Quote
48mirage Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 If you want to post these active auctions you should be fair and also post the ones that you are interested in bidding on. That way we all have a fair shot at that unique item that you've been trying to find for awhile. Quote

Bud's just neighborly! stick with us Bud!! claybill Quote
RobertKB Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Doesn't bother me to have active auctions posted. Good point though about posting those items even you are interested in. I usually check ebay every day if I am looking for something. If I happen to miss a day or so, that is the way it is. An overdrive transmission is going to go for lots no matter what. Bud, we are actually pretty friendly on this side also. Give us a chance. Quote

The only mildly acceptable reason to post an active auction on this forum is if you are the seller. Reeeeeeeallly! First of all, who said he was bidding on it? He merely just wanted to share the information. How in the hell does he know who's looking for an overdrive an who isn't? Does he just randomly chose people to PM. Sorry, Don and Tim, but until it's stated in the forum rules that posting an active auction is prohibited, I don't see a problem with posting them. It's sure helped me out at times being notified on here about a certain item up for bid. Sorry, but I just don't see your theory on this one. Again, it's not a matter of someone being lazy and not searching on Ebay 24/7 (some of us work and don't have the time to search)...it's about helping others out and bringing something of possible interest to their attention. Why do some people have to be so flippen anal? Quote

Bud Bud...thanks again for sharing your Ebay info. At the moment I'm not looking for an overdrive, but if I had, I sure would have liked the fact that you were watching out for us and not greedily keeping the info to yourself. I don't know what got into Don and Tim because usually they are good guys, but this time, I feel, they are in the wrong. Darin Quote

Very true, and some day you may want to sell one of your precious clocks (that you bought for $20), and I guarantee you'll want more than $20 for them because you know what they are worth. Put yourself in the seller's seat. Don't forget there are also few members on here that sell on Ebay. Quote

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding on where I am coming from. Also check out the clock Tim posted and you can see first hand what advertising on this forum does to prices. Do you enjoy paying higher prices on the things you want? I do have a problem with posting active e-bay auctions. On more than one occasion (and I do not use the bay often) I have found an item that I am interested in then loaded and aimed my sniper ware in hopes of winning the auction at a fair price. Suddenly the item I am in hopes of winning is posted here and gets several bids from forum readers who may or may not have a need for the item. As most of you know you can place an early "proxy" bid on the bay for an item at the highest amount you are willing to pay. This bid will show at the next highest increment. As an example if the starting price is $50.00 and you are willing to pay $200.00 you can place your proxy bid of $200.00 early in the auction but your bid will only show up as a $50.00 bid assuming you are the first and only bidder. Suddenly the auction is posted here and other forum readers are now aware of the auction even though they did not do there homework and search for the item on there own. Suddenly another bid is placed for $75.00 and the new bidder finds he is not the high bidder due to your "proxy bid of $200. This new bidder is willing to pay $150.00 so he starts upping his bid in $10.00 increments until he hits his upper limit. Now the original bidder who may have been able to buy the item for fifty bucks now must spent over $150.00 to get the item. But wait there is more. Another forum reader thinks the item is still at a good price even though he also did not do his homework and search for the part on his own and really does not need the part. But he is willing to pay $185.00 for the part. So he jumps in and ups the ante. Now the original bidder who had a good chance of getting the item for fifty bucks must spend over $185.00. That is why I use sniper ware. I can place my $200.00 bid without notice and if the auction is not publicized I have a good chance of getting it at a low fifty dollar price. So for those who think it is OK to post these auctions here I suggest the next time you find something on the bay that you want and it is listed at a fair low price post the auction here at the same time you submit your bid and see what happens. I see lots of folks posting closed auctions here on this forum bragging about the good deals they found on the bay but I rarely if ever see anyone posting an active auction they have bid on or they are interested in bidding on. dezeldoc Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I agree Don, nothing worse than some newbe or knothead running the price through the roof. the only winner there is the seller. I was watching a bicycle headbadge I needed and 2 people ran it up to over 200.00. one was a newbe with 0 feedback and the other had 35 feedback. that was the one and only I had seen in over 3 years, way beyond what it was worth. Don- I see your point, but at the same time I don't, and here's why: Of course, if I see an item on Ebay that I really want, naturally I'm going to keep it to myself the best I can. Again, if I see an item that I feel will benefit people on here, I don't see the harm in posting it. How am I to know that you have your eye on it? Ebay is an open market to the world. In my opinion, sniper ware is a form of cheating. Like you said...why should the guy that didn't do his homework on Ebay for an item be given the benefit of having someone do his work for him? Makes sense, but on the other hand, why have a sniper service do the bidding for you when you should be at the computer fighting it out at the last minute like the rest of us do. If there is an item I want, I'm going to try my best to win in this last few seconds or if I can't be there, I will set the highest price I'm willing to pay and hope for the best. That's just how it goes. I'm sure others on here might agree with me, but will chose to stay out of it. Sorry if it doesn't sit right with you, but your way of thinking on this issue seems a little greedy to me and somewhat self-centered. Quote
