Michael Courtney Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Anybody tried to place a modern radiator into a dodge from 41 to 48? I am looking for a cheaper alternative to re-coring my current one... Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Michael Courtney Quote
Andydodge Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 The radiator in my 318 powered 1940 Dodge is a late model Oz(Australian) car core with modified top & bottom tanks from the same Oz car.......take your old radiator or the measurements to a good radiator shop and they should be able to match the size, then just get the outlets sorted out to match.......andyd Quote
Phil Martin Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 needed radiator for my 50 dodge. went to local parts store with all the measurements. we found one the same size, same outlet and inlet position. I had to trim the side flange a little and drill new mounting holes. works great and looks stock. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Phil, Do you recall what the original application was? Quote

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Michael Courtney I've been giving some serious thought to using a late model crossflow radiator in my 48 coupe by finding one I can turn 90 degrees and have the fill spout on the top. I see no reason why this won't work, and the crossflow radiators cool better than the others. Quote
Phil Martin Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Sorry ordered by size I don't fnow what it was really for. Quote
builtfercomfort Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 From just looking at pictures & measurements, late 90's Mustang radiators might work. Lots of aftermarket ones have the cap at a 45 degree angle, so you can mount them with the wide side up/down or left/right. But I've never tried it myself, so maybe you can get a scrap one at a junkyard or something and give it a trial fit before spending your money. Quote
Fireball Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 You may try your luck with local tractor supply also. Many tractors share this size, quite thick but not so big otherwise. And if you find one with correct size for John Deere or so, they are usually priced reasonable. Just an quick example http://www.ineedparts.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=3268 Modern car radiators tend to be wider than what fits directly in these. Quote
Skrambler Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 In the case you have no luck, drop me a line. I have several stock rads from running P-15's in my garage. Just a thought. Quote
Michael Courtney Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 I thought I would update my question with a story about what I ended up doing. I took out the radiator and brought it to a shop here in the LA area. I paid 350.00 to have a new core placed into the orig. radiator. I took the opportunity to clean and paint my fan, replace the belt, and clean a lot of goop out from around the engine (the radiator hadn't been removed since 1947!!) I wanted to thank everyone for their input Quote

billwillard Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 I used a modine 345 in my D24. Was wider but moved it foward and had plenty of room. Will cool any engine you want to put in it. Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 All right I thought it might have been tractor oriented, modine is a radiator company then ? Quote
