dezeldoc Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Ran across this looks pretty interesting. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plymouth-DELUXE-50-CUSTOM-PICK-UP-ONE-OF-A-KIND-MUST-SEE-ORIG-6-CYL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6387QQihZ018QQitemZ280283177308QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Has been on ebay for a while, now. Was discussed in a thread maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago. Kinda cute in my opinion. There used to be old timey body shop guys around here who would invent pickups from cars. They are pretty much gone now. Quote
dezeldoc Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 Must have missed that one. Yeh the old farmers used to pull the deck lid/rumble seats out of the A's and make a box for them in place of it, instant p/u!! first A I got had that done and it had me scratching my head trying to figure what the heck was goin on till my buddy informed me( a farmer from the day). PatS.... Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 A different approach to the "problem" http://www.streetrodding.com/index.cfm/f/streetRods.view/id/14075 Kinda Avalanche, Envoy and Studebaker "inspired". Seems like a lot of work to me for limited appeal/usefulness, certainly unique though. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 How about this for size?????????????????????????? Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 I like this one for our members who like Studis. It was running around a show in Laughlin, Nevada a few years ago. Dennis:eek: Quote
Bodacious Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 That guy's on crack if he thinks he's going to get anywhere near $13K for that. The first time it was listed it bid up to maybe $7-8K if I remember right. He should have taken the money and ran then. Personally I think it's atrocious. Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Maybe if he had started with one of these it would have looked better. Quote
Normspeed Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 I like it. 13K sounds a little high to me too. The prior owner of my wagon had thoughts of turning it into a ute and adding a FURD flattie. Glad he sold it to me instead. Quote
John Mulders Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 honey , I shrunk the car but forgot the engine ! Quote
greg g Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 Now suppose, those two that went under the knife were victims of blows from substantially sized tree limbs. Then might no it be a way to recycle what may have otherwise gone to the pick and pull. Quote
Andydodge Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 We actually had Factory Plymouth/Dodge & DeSoto Utes here in Oz up to about 1956........based on the cars, not pickups.....andyd Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 That 49 Plymouth looks neat to me. Not my cup of tea though. That said, if you go through the old car catalogs you'll find that they actually sold kits to convert a car to a pickup back in the 30's and 40's. As for the price. If this type of car was my cup of tea, $13,000 doesn't sound so bad even after reading the description. Think about it. Just look in the newspaper and check used car prices. You'll pay close to that for a modern used car that is about 5 to 8 years old with tons of miles on it. Then when you buy it, the price drops as soon as you drive off the lot. At least with this one, the price won't drop through the floor when you take it home. Quote
greg g Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 When that car was displayed at our MOPAR MADNESS meet 2 years ago, the for sale sign said 9500 or OBO Seems title fees and transportation have added more cost than actual appreciation. Quote

Greg, guess it's the old story. When the other guy had it and selling it for $9500 no one bought it, so this place did. Now this place owns it and they want $13000. If someone wanted it for $9500, they should have bought it while it was cheaper from the other guy. It's the American way. Buy low, sell high. Plus, haven't you heard? When you own it, it's not worth much. When I own it, it's worth much more. Quote
Captain Neon Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 I once stopped to look at a 1980 Cadillac DeVille that had been converted to a ute. My guess is that a tree had fallen on it and the owner had modified it. This particular Caddy the guy wanted way too much money, and the bed was only a foot deep. About the only thing a guy could haul with it was a few 12 packs of beer. This one looks much better, but I agree that the guy wants too much for it. IMHO, it's a $5K car. Quote
