Valve Spring Compressor

Recommended Posts

I used a similar "C" clamp type spring compressor.

Don, they work the same way as it would on an over head valve engine. With the head removed, set one end on the valve head and the other end around the valve spring keeper, flip the handle to compress the spring, remove the keeper locks, release the handle, and remove the tool.

The one I used is a larger one, used on large diesel engines, but it still worked on my flattie. A smaller automotive one may have been easier, as the large one was a bit cumbersome at times.

Don thats no fun. Dad has a device kinda looks like a clothespin that holds them. Its spring loaded and you just push it against the valve stem and the keepers are in place. Works slick!
