Rodney Bullock Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well, I will be on the road to Hershey tomorrow with a couple of friends:mad: I'd rather be putting my fuel pump on the Stude or cruzing the Plymouth:( I need a horn assembly for the 1940 so Off I go:o This is my last trip for a while, man I wish I could get out of it. I think I will waste a whole day. I cleaned up my garage today and put the Dodge Charger away in the back. I wanted to just play with the cars tomorrow. People are always getting in the way of my fun. Yeah, I know there will be cars there and parts and kids crying, people pushing and yelling. I need abumper sticker that reads "I'd rather be cruzing" oh well I might see some Plymouths up there:D Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Rodney.....don't forget your camera. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Rodney, I have 15 grandbabies and everyone of them are precious to me. But when I go to a swap meet or auto show I leave them with their parents. Not because I don't love them or want to give them the appreciation of antique automobiles but becauseI don't think I can control the situation enough. The teenagers do what they want, no matter what and the little ones are oblivious. Maybe when they decide to become interested, I can cultivate their intrests in old iron. I share your pain. It reminds me of an old beer joint I used to go to . If you were under 21 you were not served, if over, and you had childeren with you, you were not served. Not pop or water because it was not a daycare center. Frankie Quote
John Mulders Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Rodney, hope you have fun ! John Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well Rodney if you went to Hershey you must have had your Halloween costume on as I did not see you there. I arrived at Hershey around 8:30 this morning. This place is huge. I never made it to the field of cars. I walked most of the swap meet (did not buy anything except the buck tip for the outhouse porter and his job was to announce what outhouse was available of the 6 in the row). And I walked the very long row of cars for sale. I took several pictures but I cannot post them to photobucket from this puter. My legs had enough and I left around 2:00 PM. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 Hey Don, believe it or not I thought I saw you however I thought it was an optical illution. I was walking the row of cars for sale and got stuck at the red with white stripe 58 silver hawk, the guy was from Indianna we taked fro a long time and he opened the hood for me and it was a two bbl. I told him I had a 1961. There were so many cars it was crazy. So many great restorations. The prices were kind of reasonable as well. I saw a couple of 41 Plymouths to die for, some Kaiser's, this Caddy emerald green was breath taking. I ordered a car cover for the hawk and got some of that white wall cleaner from Universal tire. Those guy's are always there. The auction area had a 1956 convertible that was fantastic. I was looking for some horns and did not find any for my car:( They had horns for everything but. I met some nice people though and had some great conversation:cool: even the chicks were on there best behavior:cool: When I got home I installed my fuel pump and corrected my fan belts, I even installed new valve caver gaskets on the Stude. I can't wait until tomrrow so I can test all my work:) Quote
RobertKB Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Rodney, that first car looked kinda familiar at first but I didn't take my car to Hershey as it's a couple of thousand miles away. Then I realized it was an Imperial, not a Royal. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Look at it this way Rodney, to people out here, Hershey is sort of legendary as an old car parts source. I'd love to see it one day. Quote
Furylee2 Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 My legs had enough and I left around 2:00 PM. I walked the Chocolate fields Thursday, both the north and south. Friday I wore the wife's step counter and covered the Red, Green and Orange fields. I walked nine miles that day. Buy 3PM or so, a lot of vendors were packing up. I went Saturday morning for a little while, a lot of them were already gone. Met the family and went down to Gettysburg, and guess what, more walking. Quote

Furylee; I drove by Gettysburg on the way back to the fort. I thought about stopping but did not. I might drive back up there next week. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 I can see Hershey being a big deal to true car guy's it is a great place to go. I hope one day you can come out to see it Normspeed you would really enjoy it. Furylee, you are very lucky to go two days. I have only did that one time. This guy had a part I had to have and he was away from his Vending space. I went back after he call me(I left a card) and said he would hold the part for me. RobertKB, that car looks just like yours, I love old mopars painted black, they are so clean and upright. I took a separate pic of the fender skirt because it had a emblem on it. I have had friends with Royals and imperials The imperial is longer and usually has the 8 cly. I guess PA. has some of the best accomindations for huge car events. The Studebaker international meet was there in Lancaster than tou have Carlise, don't forget York and than reedsville for the Stude crowd. I am lucky to have both good friends that like a day trip and a camera:D Hey maybe next year if everyone plans we can meet up at Hershey and exchange pleasentries:cool: Iwould be willing to drive a mopar up there:p Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 Here is another Chrysler convert and when was the last time you saw a Kaiser wow, if I had the money, space and a more understading wife that live in another location and....... Quote
Furylee2 Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 IFurylee, you are very lucky to go two days. I have only did that one time. This guy had a part I had to have and he was away from his Vending space. I went back after he call me(I left a card) and said he would hold the part for me. Rodney, Sorry you didn't have any luck with finding a horn. I know the 40's were mounted on the firewall, but I can't remember what they look like. I saw a couple I'm sure were P-15 horns in my rounds. It sounds like it really starts on Wednesday now. I got the Hershey mid day Wednesday, but Linda and I went to the AACA atuo museum. I guess a lot of the vendors come from Carlisle the weekend before, and I guess I can see why so many pack up early. Tomorrow we start the long trip back to Nebraska. We stopped in Carlisle on the way back to Johnstown, and got gas at the Pilot for $2.69! I hope we can be that lucky on the rest of the trip. Lee Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 I hope you have a nice safe trip back, I was very surprized to see gas under 3.00 ain't it great:) Did you get to see the fin's display? I was told it was great, they had a packard-hawk on display. I was so itired that I did not go over to the museum:( man I missed it big time. I have been working and playing with my Stude ever since I got back, wow it really gives me a charge when I catch an event like that Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Rodney, which car needs horns??? Wish I could get to Hershey some time.....I know it's pretty impossible to see it all. Sounds like you guys got your exercise. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 The 1940 Plymouth needs horns:) bad Excercize, Jack lalane would have been pooped out:eek: Oh I forgot he's 80 now. Quote
40phil41 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Anyone who tries to see all of the Hershey flea market in one day must be a marathon runner. I go almost every year, including this year. We (3 of us) drive down on Wednesday with a small camper and stay until Saturday noon. Wed. evening is spent going through the car corral. We spend all of Thursday and Friday doing the flea market and still do not cover it all. Thurs. and Friday evenings we sit in on the car auction to rest our weary feet. Saturday morning is spent wondering through the show cars. The quality of the cars still amazes me. Saturday is a bad day for the flea market since a large number of vendors leave between Friday night and mid-Sat. morning. Phil P.S. I didn't find any real treasures this year but then I now have duplicates of almost everything I need Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Where are the horns located on a 40 Plym? Are there two or one? Are they the long trumpet style, or small curved ones? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Dads 39 had a single horn that was engine mounted. It was on an L bracket that attached to 2 head bolts. My truck should have a similar one but I moved the horn to the firewall where it was on the bigger trucks. Quote
40phil41 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Where are the horns located on a 40 Plym? Are there two or one? Are they the long trumpet style, or small curved ones? If they are the same as my '40 Dodge, they are a pair of trumpet style mounted on the firewall. Phil Quote
RobertKB Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 My '38 Chrysler has the small horns mounted on the firewall. I believe Plymouths, Dodges, and Desotos have the trumpet horns mounted on the engine or firewall. Ain't it confusing! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 Hey RobertKB that a huge difference:) Bob the horns on the 40 Plymouth are mounted on the firewall like two miles Davis horns:rolleyes: They are "beautiful" See the pic that Phil has of his REd Dodge. Nice pic Phil. Jimsent me a horn relay, I have the bracket all I need is the horns themselves. as with anything they will come along. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Having the bracket and the relay probably would allow you to use P15 horns or maybe even other DPCD horns. I believe the bracket is more model specific then the horns themselves. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Rodney, Judging from the Parts Book posted on Chet's site I believe Ed is right. The book lists the same part numbers for the horns used in 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1942 with a note for 1946-1948. The horns in Phil's picture sure look like the ones in my '41 except that mine are mounted vertically in front of the radiator which I infer to mean that only the mounting brackets are different. Jim Yergin Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 As I recall, there are two trumpet horns (probably no bracket) right now on ebay. The price seemed reasonable. They are in the 46-48 plymouth listings, at least that's where i found them. Might show up in other years.
