Wow!

That event looks like heaven.

Especially when viewed from rainy London.

Love the pictures - thanks for posting.

Particularly like the fact that there are 9 pix of the 49 Plymouth woody, but only one each of all those F**rds and Che**ies!!!

Like the Nash Metropolitan and was really surprised to see the 1960 MG Magnette... but what's with the high-rise suspension?!

Left my Eagles on their own while I went to Cruz the 101 in SD today. . .

I am being cartographically challenged.

At one time US101 went from San Diego north. I have childhood memories of coming west along US80 to San Diego, up US101 to Dana Point then up US101 alternate (PCH) to the family beach house in Laguna Beach.

But US101 between San Diego and Los Angeles was decommissioned as a US highway when I-5 was built in the 1960s. At present US101 starts in Los Angeles and goes north through San Francisco and up into Oregon and on into Washington.

Your photo looks like Southern California but not any section of the current US101 that I recognize (and I am pretty familiar with every section of it from the four level interchange in LA through Klamath, CA (not too far short of the Oregon border).

So just where were those photos taken?

Ahhh. I get it now. County route S-21 following an alignment formally used by US-101. Google and Wikipedia can be your friends. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_101 we get:

Parts of Historic Route 101 can still be found in San Diego County between Oceanside and the border with Mexico under a variety of different names. Through Oceanside it is called Coast Highway. In Carlsbad it becomes Carlsbad Blvd, but to the south in Encinitas it is Coast Highway 101. Solana Beach keeps it consistent with Highway 101, but Del Mar changes it to Camino Del Mar. All of those together make up San Diego County Route S21. From there it continues along Torrey Pines Road to Interstate 5 in La Jolla. The old 101 routing continues on I-5 in San Diego until Pacific Highway, the old U.S. 101 freeway a little west of current I-5. It then continued on Harbor Drive and Broadway through Downtown San Diego and Chula Vista, then onto National City Blvd in National City. The southern parts of I-5 were U.S. 101 for a period before I-5 was completed also. All have been decommissioned, but the roadways still exist and are occasionally signed as Historic 101.
