  1. Looking good Joe!
  2. Yeah this car was built right. I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car anywhere. It is possible, you just have to find the right car. Like you I was afraid of finding the same thing.
  3. Gonna have to get some more pics of it this weekend. I spent most of the afternoon and evening cleaning it up and detailing it. Cleaned up the interior best I could and added some temporary carpet and floormats. I think it is presentable enough to drive around now. I got so busy it got dark before I thought about taking any pictures.
  4. I've always heard good things about this show, but haven't been yet. May go one of these years. I'm heading to Springfield, IL for the Route 66 show this weekend. Have fun at the show. Take lots of pics.
  5. Hey Tim, I did notice this car has a center arm rest in the back seat. Not sure if that is original or not. The previous owner said that it was an original seat.
  6. It doesn't have any of the original knobs left. It's got a gm tilt column in it too. Car was a basket case before, but with all the original trim and bumpers it still gives it a nice look.
  7. I decided it was time to part with some of my GM vehicles and start looking for more '40's mopars. I like the flathead and od in my old Plymouth, but looking for something that had been street rodded a bit to drive a little more. Found that a friend had this town sedan road ready, but still needing a interior done. It is V8 powered with an automatic, a/c, and cruise. It sure is fun to drive. Just brought it home this evening. Will post more pics later on.
  8. That should cruise pretty nice with a 3.73 rear and od. I find my speedo is off 8mph with the 3.55 rear, od kicks in about 30mph.
  9. Good info in the archives on this from Norm's Coupe, Don, and others. http://p15-d24.com/topic/3418-re-wiring-my-p-15/page-2?hl=+watson%20+brake%20+switch
  10. I converted to the watson switch about 5 years ago. Been trouble free since I put in it. The switch does not care which terminal the wires are connected to, all you are doing is sending power to the back brake light. Either way it will connect the two together when the switch is on. After going through several of the pressure switches that failed I decided I would upgrade.
  11. I would copy it from the share part on the right side of the page. Seems to be working okay that way.
  12. Fixed again. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/DonCoatney/library/Billy%20Austin/day%209 For some reason when he posts the link it doesn't highlight the last word, which has to be in the link.
  13. Fixed again. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/DonCoatney/library/Billy%20Austin/day%207
  14. Does it take off in direct drive? Cable pushed in?
  15. Don't forget to have the runtz voltage reducer for the fuel gauge. 12 volts will damage you gauge.
  16. Try this link. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/DonCoatney/library/Billy%20Austin/day%204-5
  17. I know where Cuba is, but I didn't know there was a chrome shop there. I looked at some work done on a friends car in Nashville, TN and it looked really good. He said about 1000 for both bumper and the frt bumper guards and bar. Chrome just isn't cheap anymore.
  18. Looks really good. What are the door panels made of? Seat recovering very expensive?
  19. Looks good Ed. For the speedo cable I think I bought a new one from Roberts and it was long enough to reach over the trans and around. Haven't had any problems with it.
  20. Yeah for the kick down all you need is a normally closed switch. I've got a push button under the dash. Like Marty said, let off the accelerator and hit the button. Hit the accelerator and your back in direct drive. Easy set up.
  21. I hear from a lot of guys lately that the muscle cars of the '50's - '60's - 70's are the most popular right now. I'm 33 and trying to sell my vehicles from that era to buy more '40's era cars. After attending another pre-'49 only show two weeks ago, with 3800 entries of street rod and restored cars, I can see it is still popular with some people. Lots of younger folks were there too. There are several guys in our group that encourage the young kids to sit in there cars and have their picture taken. I try to avoid that unless it is someone I know, but hey if I've got a old car with an old interior I'm not real worried about, who cares. 10 years from now that kid may pick an old car over a souped up Honda to drive. Would be worth it to me. I gave up on the all day shows, other than the larger shows several years ago. Even at the larger shows I get there early and am usually gone by 2-3 and headed back to the hotel, usually don't go on Sunday and avoid the awards ceremonies. I enjoy the local cruise in's, where the wife and I can eat supper, hang out with the car people, and still get to drive our car. Having a whole lot more fun and avoiding the trophy crowd.
  22. I always thought the metal bead was up. That is how I installed mine. I used 3m weatherstrip adhesive to put mine in as didn't want to mess with the staples.
  23. I'm running a 218 with dual carbs, exhaust. Have the '52 R-10 BW Overdrive, which is very nice. I swapped in a 3.55 rear end, which was a bit higher gear, but it loves to run 65-70 mph. It doesn't fly past anyone, but once you get up to speed it runs right along. On the interstate or highway in OD I am getting about 25 mpg. My buddies with V8's and 350 turbo trans are stopping for gas while I still have a half a tank. I don't have any internal engine mods, running everything at pretty much stock. I did convert to 12V negative and am running electronic ignition. Runs great and fires up every time.
  24. Yes try restoration specialities. Search for them online, they have lots of trim clips.
  25. Congrats Jim, Glad you are able to get it out, drive, and enjoy it again.
