Anyone have the frame dimensions for a '51 or'52 Plymouth I could use to compare to the '56? None of my manuals show the dimensions. Thanks!

No need. I would've said the same. ?

I appreciate the sentiment- but it's not as solid as it looks. The rust issues are quite extensive- I plan to salvage as many parts as I can for my solid '56, including doors, trim, steering wheel, bumpers, etc. It is weird how it rusted- it sat under a tarp in the Sierras for 40 years...the whole back of the wagon is corrosion but the front is OK. the floors are gone, but the rockers are solid, including the original aluminum step plates. Once I get all I can from it, I will drag it down to Turner's Auto Wrecking where it will hopefully supply parts for others.

I've been trying to come up with a way to use the '56 277 Poly V8 that came in my parts wagon in my '52 Suburban build. I realize that a number of modifications will need to happen if I just transplant the V8 where the old flat 6 lived, such as dealing with the steering column, motor location, mounts, etc. I've looked at both chassis, and the wheel width is almost exactly the same- but the '52 has a 111" wheelbase vs. a 115" wheelbase for the '52. It seems the frame width near the front body mounts are close- within an inch or two. Anyone try this swap?

I believe that only original wheels will take the original hubcaps. I went through 14 wheels when I was doing the '40 woodie to find 4 usable ones. I would take them down to my cousin's tire shop and he would spin check them for true. Here is what my current project (15") wheels look like:

Progress update: I was able to contact the PO and retrieve the tailgate piece that fits over the back window. He's way up in the Sierras, and left it on his cabin deck, where my wife and I made an 8 hour day trip and found it. We timed it well, as there were no fires burning nearby that day and the air was pretty clear. Got it home and it fit perfectly. Now I can roll up the back window, and cover it for the upcoming winter. I will need to install the fuzzy moulding where the window rolls up into the roof- any suggestions as to suppliers?

According to the "Standard Catalog of Chrysler 1914-2000", all '53 Plymouth tires were 15" X 6.70"

So many parts, so little time

Great guy. His name is Steve Rotholz and he is located in Selma CA. He loves NOS and stock parts and probably has another 6,000 items at his warehouse. His phone is (559) 352-1407. Leave a message if you call.

The English came up with the Plymouth name, so my 1940, 4 door Plymouth Westchester Semi-Sedan Suburban, should rightly be called a Plymouth Estate wagon!

Scored 2 very nice front fenders and got back before it got too hot. $75 each, and no shipping! As you can see from the pictures of the yard, he has entire cars for sale, and I spotted a number of Chrysler-family engines- a P18 and what may be a truck or industrial engine. He said all motors turned over when they were pulled.

Totally my pleasure!

I believe so. He purchased a Fresno dealer's lot and some other estate sales

Paul Flaming has been my informant recently, by notifying me of MIMH (Mopars I must have). recently, he turned me on to 2 - 1956 Plymouth wagons (both in need of a total resto, but with great motors) and now a parts vendor in nearby Selma CA. Thanks Paul! I'm heading over to his car boneyard this morning to pull some trim and front fenders for my '54 Chrysler T&C wagon. Doesn't matter that it's going to be 110 degrees today, because, well you know!. The owner is Steve Rothholz and he has a strong eBay presence as forthebeachonly. I was blown away by the the incredible amount of NOS and refurbished parts he has for American cars and trucks from the 30's to the 60's, a large percentage of which are Mopar. In addition to the Selma store, his vehicle yard is in nearby Fowler, and rivals Turner's for variety and the number of older vehicles with useable parts. Chrysler, Desoto, Dodge, Plymouth and Imperial parts are all represented, including a good proportion of P15 and D24 parts. His prices are very good. I paid $40 for 2 NOS trim pieces for my wagon. His Selma operation is located in a 120 year old lumber warehouse, which makes it that much cooler. Here are some pictures and his contact info. He had not heard of our Forum or website, so I thought I would make the introductions. Maybe we could add him to our vendor page.

DJ - Yes, It's a Wilcap adapter, Wilcap adapter 230 flathead to GM auto transmission and I'm going to be running a GM TH 200 4R auto trans with overdrive. GM TH200 4R. It looks similar to a turbo 350.and has the same mounting points, but has that 4th gear for cruising. I purchased a P22 218 motor from a shop near my home last year and it came with the adapter- all for $200, and it ran!

'52 Suburban update- we got the body off the frame! It was quite an undertaking - we inserted 2 - 4x4s through the open windows and ratcheted it up slowing so we could roll the chassis out from underneath. Almost didn't have enough clearance but letting some air out of the tires did the trick. Mounted the body on a homemade jig with heavy casters so we can move it around easily. Next steps- change out the rear end with a refurbished '92 Ranger third member and add brakes.

Yes the rockers will need to be replaced. I had mine done on my '52 Suburban by a friend of mine, who is a professional welder. He sometimes had problems due to trying to weld old metal with the new patch panels. I would find someone who could do the welding for you- here are some sources of repair panels: SRPM Steel Repair Panels classicparts4u eBay seller

It's a "57. My buddy's truck since high school. He's replacing the original 265 (long gone) with a rebuilt 350, 700R tranny and a few other enhancements. Nice ride.
