  1. It might be a lot less fun, but would it pay to buy a small trailer from Harbor Freight or Costco and then it's all new and ready to go?
  2. Be careful that the gas doesn't start mixing with the oil and diluting it. This would not be good for the bearings!
  3. Those Chevy Good Humor trucks were all over the place when I was a kid. They had bells on them and when we heard them we all went running to an adult for ice cream money. Pavlov was right....
  4. Joe, Did you sandwich the replacement floor panel between the inner and outer rocker or put it on top of both of them?
  5. The Cambridge was the less expensive model and the Cranbrook was the better one. The Cambridge came with plain gray cloth door panels with burgundy vinyl at the bottom. The Cranbrook came with two-tone door panels separated by a shiny plastic strip. The top part had stripes and the bottom part was solid-color vinyl with embossed lines to make a box design. I've seen the door panels in blue, gray, and green depending on the outside color of the car. Another thing that shows it's a Cranbrook is the courtesy light switch on the upper hinge of the right front door. It's actually a modified hinge screw with a pin-switch in the middle of it. After all this rambling, I remembered the sure-fire way to tell what model it is: Look on the firewall for the body number tag. If the number begins with a 100, you've got a Cambridge. If it's 105 you've got a Cranbrook. The VIN on the driver's door hinge post also has a different sequence depending on the model. I've had a bunch of these cars and like them a lot. Hope this helps. Harold
  6. The car has a lot of potential. It's good to hear your son took an interest in it...my 16-y.o. wants to work on our '51 business coupe with me this summer. Are you sure it's a Cranbrook? It has the rubber windshield molding and no horn ring (from what I can tell in the photo) so it may be a Cambridge.
  7. We knew someone who sold yellow pages advertising. It was not inexpensive; she did quite well on the commissions.
  8. Plastic is a petroleum product and the car was hungry...
  9. I remember seeing these over 30 years ago at Carlsile and beng told by vendor Ed Spiegel's wife Darlene that the supplies of them are drying up! Looks like she was wrong...
  10. So do I. Those things threw a powerful beam. And you could collect more D-cells to keep them going with your 'Free Battery of the Month' card!
  11. Our newspaper includes 'USA Weekend' as its Sunday magazine supplement. In today's issue, there was a HF ad with a coupon for a free 9-LED mini-flashlight. Useful and free...what more could you ask for?

  13. A '52 Cranbrook I sold in the late 1980's showed-up on eBay about a year ago. The guy I sold it to was finally selling it. I called and spoke to him about it...he enjoyed the car and didn't regret owning it. It was hard not to buy it back, but I am comfortable with my decision not to bid.
  14. I recall someone finding the number behind the rear bumper bracket on outside of the frame.
  15. I may do a one-dayer if I can find someone to go with. We've usually gone as a family, but my wife and kids have other committments this year.
  16. FWIW, I live less than 10 miles from Englishtown and, for our cars, it's pretty useless. Rhinebeck (NY) is a great show and swap meet; it happens the first weekend in May this year.
  17. If these are truly small 'pinhole' type holes, you might be able to use a heavy-duty electric soldering gun to fill them in, then grind down and paint.
  18. I had this site bookmarked. They may only provide parts for newer cars. Might be worth speaking to them anyway: http://www.odometergears.com/
  19. I saw a '65 Dodge Coronet 440 sedan like my parents used to have in a Wal-Mart parking lot yesterday and was walking around it with my son when I remembered something that I thought was pretty amazing.... We picked-up our car from the dealer at 3:30 PM on Saturday, March 27, 1965...and 45 years later to the minute I was looking at another one! PS: '65 Coronets are at the top of my 'gonna get one some day' list, much to the annoyance of my wife!
  20. Blueskies(Pete) found a GM weatherstrip that had the proper profile for his '50. Maybe he can chime in.
  21. Between the bad weather on weekends and our other running around I haven't gotten to it yet.
  22. I wonder if Rock Auto is slowly ratcheting their prices up now that they are well-established. Case in point: I needed a light socket and pigtail assembly for one of our daily drivers over the weekend. I got it at the local NAPA for $7.25. Afterwards, I checked Rock Auto and they were nearly $8.00 before adding shipping. This is the first time I've ever seen a local store beat Rock Auto's online price.
  23. 1952 Plymouths don't have a removable center floor panel, only the pedal panel comes out.
  24. Looks good , Fred. You've brought that car a long way from where it started.
  25. No price, not too awful looking. Here's the link: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1633291739.html
