  1. John, the truck will be a full custom, not much other than coolers will be carried in the back....... Bud.
  2. So I get this new bed from Eastern Washington and I'm really happy with it, but the tailgate is toast (as usual). I'm standing there staring at the whole box assembly when the light bulb goes off in the ole noggin. Since I am not going to use the front panel on this bed (I am using a spare rear cab panel to match the curve), why not take the perfect front panel and build a tailgate out of it? It has the same design except for the Dodge logo and mine is good enough to weld in to that area if I choose to. I would have to fabricate a top, bottom and sides, but it doesn't seem insurmountable. What do you guys think???? Bud
  3. I don't think I have ever seen anything so stupid in my life..... why everyone knows you have to throw a small block chev motor on the hood to help with that weight distribution....... DUH
  4. every one, without exception has been great to deal with. No one hides any expertise or knowledge. I am proud to be a part of this group.
  5. got the shortbed and trailer back home. Very nice and virtually rust free. I am suprised at the differences in the beds. This one is obviously shorter (12 inches), but also narrower too. I did not realize it would be, but still works well for my application. Tom will be a happy camper with my bed for sure. Bud
  6. since you admit to "min" experience, I think I might go with the flatty and the disc kit, I am putting a Dakota frame under my 53 and it would not be a very easy job for a person with little experience. Tims Volare swap is a good choice, but you would need to measure, measure, measure or it will not drive well. Check out my thread on the frame swap. 7. well, it's all set up to leave in the morning to go to eastern Washington to get the short bed. I can't believe how giddy I am. I'm more excited than when we left for Disneyland a couple weeks ago. Can't wait for tomorrow. I will update after getting it home......... steady, Tom, I can hear you breathing hard from here....... Bud
  8. great start on a great idea. It was awesome talking with you last week also. I noticed in the pic of the dakota inside cab that you have the bracket for the emergency brake. any chance of holding on to that for me? I think I let mine go with the scrapper. Although I won't be able to actually be there when you plan to make the run, I will be there in spirit. If I can help in any way, let me know. Bud
  9. nice work, quite the transformation. Those trucks look great anyways.
  10. more effective than the "club" too.
  11. Tom, if they only knew the desperate hoops we had to jump thru at the last minute to make this all work. I've been smiling all day too.
  12. very neat. Glad it all worked out well.
  13. Made a deal with Kuster (tom). since he needs my long box and I need a short box, if he would bid on the short box on e bay that is in Washington, I would trade the ebay short box for my long box. it worked, we won and we both get what we need. I just need to go pick it up now. ebay item 300310056280
  14. lookin good!!!!
  15. I get my subscription in the mail usually before they hit the stands. if you can't find it, let me know and I will copy and send it to you. Bud
  16. Mike, check out the new issue of rod and Custom, they have an article on how to make a set of Ford car doors into ventless and the process looks to be about the same for use on the Dodge truck doors. Bud
  17. the sad part is that people are bidding on it.......
  18. and the last. still need to finish the welding, but happy with the results so far. You will notice that I had to radius the front of the cowl to match the dakota cowl. This was to gain tire clearance since it sits low on the frame. Bud
  19. ok, guys. I have been busy putting the Dakota front floor in the 53. it actually went a whole lot easier than I thought it would. I just put the front part in as there was no need to go rearward of the front of the seat as the floor was still solid. With this floor and cowl set up, I can use the dakota master cyl, gas pedal set up, emergency brake set up, and possibly the ac and heater too. pix tell the story.
  20. both great ideas. geez and I had my truck already cut and had a spare set of doors too. maybe next one. Bud
  21. not sure what type of a vehicle it is, but I"ll bet its a 1/24th (rust) scale model of something
  22. SORRY, WRONG E BAY AUCTION, TRY THIS NUMBER 200332191904, BUD
  23. I paid $20.00 for it and thought I did fine. I was looking on Ebay and there is a pretty nice dodge truck hood ornament with a buy it now that with shipping is under a twenty. item 170321336611
  24. I just picked up the top hood ornament (46-48 Dodge) at the Mount Vernon swap meet today. VERY NICE with just some light speckling on it, Chrome is shiny. Just curious, what are they worth? Don't know if I will put it on my truck or not, it was just too purty to pass up. Bud
