  1. actually, Tom, the new box is a perfect fit, I think I would have had to narrow the old one. I still will need to get wheels on the rear with an additional inch of offset as they are fairly close to the bedsides.
  2. one more pic of the shortened running board. most welding will be hidden under the door.
  3. fenders, cab and new bed are on the Dakota frame. One running board is shortened 8 inches. I need opinions (good or bad) as to how it looks. Is the stance ok? does the bed set right with the cab? Inquiring minds (at least mine) want to know..... Bud PS, sorry for the quality of the pics, there is no one around to help me roll the truck into the street for better side pics.
  4. the side to side measurements are very good, the frame is a great option, but i would recommend you use the stock frame and upgrade the suspension components and brakes. I put mine on the Dakota Chassis as the truck is being built for the wife and she has some disabilities. The power rack and pinion, discs and the modern drivetrain will be much easier for her. Bud
  5. both of you should be proud. those are fine examples of a great truck.
  6. cool. now the fun begins!!!
  7. Paid $800 for mine and drove it onto the trailer. the only reason I didn't drive her the 60 miles home was the rotten tires. BUd
  8. I will probably box around the sectioned area at a later time. Bud
  9. Yeah, I did the cuts with the cab on, and yes, I took measurements from underneath, harder, but did not want to remove the cab again, I determined the "cut" location by realizing that it is the only place on the frame that is the same width and has the length to take 23 inches out of it. Thanks for saving the e brake bracket, but I just found mine in a pile of stuff when I cleaned the garage, I appreciate you holding it for me though. How is your truck coming? Time is getting closer.....LOL
  10. Now I have a 108 inch wheelbase truck. It was kinda scary to see that huge gap in the frame after the cuts, but after gusseting the rails and squeezing the frame back together, it came out fine. A good nites work. Bud
  11. Nice frame. looking forward to seeing it when it is painted, measured out my frame tonite and will be cutting 23 inches out of it (hopefully tomorrow). Bud
  12. thanks, but my Dodge logo is good too. Probably not worth the shipping to get it here for me. I appreciate the offer. bud
  13. I got the cab bolted solidly to the new Dakota frame, made up a core support bracket and bolted it all together, the hood fits like a glove too. Shortening the frame about 22 inches is next so I can put on the new bed. Bud
  14. this is what it would look like channeled and with a chop, mine is on a Dakota frame.
  15. Thanks for all the input, i took a die grinder with a 1/4 inch disc and just ground the heads off. Bed is loose, thanks again. Bud
  16. if you take the box "springs" out, the rear axle will come loose......:D:D
  17. I drilled the center out with an 1/8 inch bit and progressively worked up till the heads just popped off. I tried soaking the threads and impacting them off, but to no avail. Bud
  18. wood is still there albeit pretty crappy. I think I will weld the lug nuts on top of the heads and see if that will work. Bud
  19. I thought about the same thing too. I have a bunch of lug nuts that the taper would probably work well to weld to. thanks, Bud
  20. Searched the forum with no answers. I am ready to take my newly aquired bed off the frame, but the bolts just spin round and round. I can't grab them with anything, so what is the best way to get the bolts loose? I was hoping not to have to hot wrench them. Bud
  21. \ too bad you live so far away, I am getting ready to pull the bed off the frame and don't need the frame or the stock rear end. You would only need the box then.
  22. horn ring belongs to a early 50's dodge car. you can tell by the fluted ring.
  23. I appreciate the heads up, but wrong one. sigh........ Bud
  24. I agree that the tailgate should look as original as possible, I think I can accomplish that. About the only good part on my tailgate is the dodge logo. I can incorporate that in the new tailgate. I'm thinking it would be hard to tell from original. Bud
