  1. I think the deeper offset are just rims that GM used to call Station Wagon rims for the heavier passenger cars-and by the way-they look good! Speaking from experience-this is why I like truck shows and cruise ins alot more than judged car shows-too many anal car guys nit picking every little thing. The truck guys seem to be a lot more about driving their stuff and enjoying the hobby-that's why the ATCA doesn't have judged shows-a real easy way to p&ss someone off. Just my 2cents. Mike
  2. Wow-that's even nicer than the Verizon cable guys's truck. Good luck-Mike
  3. There's a wick on the back of the speedo that is used to lube the internals-you should also make sure that has some oil in it. It looks like a long tube with a flat head screw head on it. Mike
  4. My '78 Dodge half ton has one-see if NAPA can show you a p/n for something of that vintage. Mike
  5. I'm trying to convert my 49 1 ton from a 3 spd on the floor to a creeper 4 speed. The 4 speed that I have won't bolt up to my bell housing-anyone have any idea if a bell housing from a '39 with a working 5 speed, or one from a Chrysler industrial engine will fit my engine (230?) Thanks-Mike
  6. Trailer queens-are they the same as lot lizards? Hey invention is a mother of necessity when you've got kids in college! That's what I've done on the antique JDeeres that I have, my 36 plymouth. Anyone can go out and buy what they need-well most people. I like the satisfaction of being resourceful-may change the name of my flatbed to the McGiver MoPar:D ! Mike
  7. I did the same thing with mine. I bought a seat at Macungie from a 50's IH that had just been reupholstered for $10. I brought the whole thing home-removed the covers. After replacing the foam, the covers fit almost perfectly on my 52's spring and frames. Nice when something works out-and couldn't beat the price. Mike
  8. The good guys was this past weekend. Next weekend is the ATHS show in Saratoga Springs. Small world huh? My cousing was principal at the PE elementary school for years. Mike
  9. Dutch: There's a real nice cruise in on Friday nights right across the stream from you in Port Ewen at the Frozen Rainbow Icecream stand. I took my '36 up this past Friday-I may take the '52 up this Friday if the weather is good. A nice assortment of cars, trucks. This past week there were a few ratrods there too- a real nice friendly cruise-they have lights so it doesn't shut down at dark. Good food, cars, nice people-what the hobby should be-Mike
  10. My 36 plymouth had what they referred to as HIGH CLEARANCE rims that were larger than the standard 16". I wonder if these are the truck version of those? Mike:confused:
  11. I don't think the bondo is where the filler strips go-it looks like its on the door-never saw one rust there-maybe its been hit. Lots of luck on the buy it now price. I thought the orange peel on mine was bad! Mike:o
  12. You can tell he did it himself-he put the steering wheel in the glove compartment!
  13. Boy-those chromed Budds really set that off. Not original, but real nice. Mike
  14. Grey Beard-how 'bout some photos of your work in progress? I too painted my w Rustoleum a few years ago (rattle cans) as I couldn't stand the primer any more. Soon as I figure how to post pics so that you can see them, I will. Mike
  15. They show up on ebay from time to time, but sime times their kind of spendy. Mike

    1950 one ton

He's right about the rims, but there are 2 different styles-one for duals, and one for singles (different offsets). I converted my '52 to 12v using an internally regulated GM alternator. Changed all the bulbs-but haven't done the resister for the fuel guage yet (sending unit is bad so its not a big deal). I replaced most of the wiring harness (1 wire at a time), but I want to reroute the wiring to bypass everything going through the amp meter. This is a potential trouble area when adding accessories. I'll be installing a voltmeter which is a better indicator of what is going on with the charging system anyway. I can send you pics of the 2 different budd wheel styles. Good luck-Mike
  17. Are you talking about the 16" Budd type rims on the duals (6 hole rim)? If so they're locking ring, not split rim. The split rims are pretty hard to find anyone to mess with since they can come apart at any time and in some states they're illegal. The locking ring should be handled by any truck tire dealer. You're going to want to make sure that the groove on the rim is cleaned out (no rust) and the lip on the ring that goes into the groove fits snugly. The 17" drop center 6 hole rims from the later 1 tons will fit your hubs, but the 17" tires are tough to come by at least around here. I haven't found a 16" drop center that will fit the 6 hole hub. When you look for rims, there are two type of the Budd style-one for single applications, and one for duals. The single rims can't be used in a dual application as their offset is different. If you try to use these with duals, the sidewalls of the tires will touch instead of the rim centers. Mike
  18. I don't know, but I've always enjoyed the feeling of the blood rushing to my head as I bend myself over the fender trying to look through my bifocals to see what's going on. What makes it even better is dropping something down inside the distributor, or on to the floor so that you have to stand up quick and hit your head on the hood so that you can quickly lay down on the floor to retrieve what you hoped was laying on the floor has now fallen down into the floor drain. I find that getting really aggravated at this point helps too as it will almost certainly assure that you hit your head on something as you crawl out from under the truck. I don't know why anyone would remove the distibutor and miss this experience. Mike
  19. My 52 1 ton leans to the right! I had a parts truck that sat level so I took the front springs out when I changed the king pins. Still leans a little to the right, but not as bad. Probably about level w a full tank of gas and me in the driver's seat! My '78 half ton leans to the left. I replaced the coils in the front and still have the same problem. I give up. Mike
  20. I had this same problem w my '36 Plymouth-started great cold-not so when hot. Check to make sure you have good clean connections and heavy enough cables from the battery to the starter switch, and have a GOOD ground directly from the battery to the starter mount bolts. If all of these appear to be ok, you may want to check the starter amp draw-may be drawing to heavily and starving the ignition system for current. I take the dust band off my starter every once in awhile and clean up the commutator with a dressing stone. You could also have a problem with the gas boiling in the bowl of the carb as it sits after a run-this could especially be true if the heat flapper is stuck in the closed position. I eventually converted it to 12v because I couldn't find a 6 volt batt that lasted more than the warranty period. Mike
  21. I'm pretty sure what you are talking about applies to only some of the Fuller or Eaton Roadranger transmissions used in the big trucks. Go to ATHS.ORG and check out the forum-I think there is a thread there about this now, but it only applies to the road rangers. MBF
  22. Could be the fuel in the carburator bowl is boiling causing flooding condition, or it could be fuel vapor lock. Is the fuel line between the carb and fuel pump insulated or real close to the exhaust manifold? You may also want to check the amp draw of your starter. If your wiring (terminals, connections, and cabling) is corroded or dirty it will create resistance that will starve the ignition system causing a weak spark.
  23. Pretty sure it'll only fit the 48-50 radio cutouts-I think the 51-53 were all horizontally mounted. Mike
  24. I have a '39 Dodge dumptruck that had a valve that was stuck to bad that the motor would turn past the point where the cam tried to open the valve. I remember an old time tell me that he had seen them seize so bad that when towing one it pushed the valveguide out. Don't know if that could really happen, but I guess anything is possible. Mike
  25. Dutch-there's a good show coming up this weekend (Sunday). The Uncle Sam ATCA Chapter is having their annual show at the Washington County Fairgrounds. I'm heading up with my 78 pickup-too far for the '52, but maybe someday. Mike
