  1. I see a filter mounting on the block but on the fire wall it looks like a oil filter to me I believe some of the trucks had a 2 quart filter maybe it was too big for the engine mounting. A a few members have set up a more modern full flow filter I am sure they can explain the set up.
  2. KirbyD34 had email them to me and stored them on my web site and I posted them in 2 parts Ed http://oldmopar.com/p15/install318a.jpg http://oldmopar.com/p15/install318B.jpg
  3. On a number of vehicles I have tried all types of sprays oils and what have you and have never been able to free a really frozen heat rise. I now just leave them frozen and have not noticed any difference maybe I have just been lucky. Antique auto parts cellar use to carry the kits see the link http://www.then-now.com/The_Cellar/cellar.htm
  4. Sent you a email early this am around 5am. Just sent you a email again let me know if you get it ? Ed
  5. If you are around send me a pm or email ed@oldmopar.com
  6. While not a Dodge I have a dump bed on a 62 Willys pickup and the name plate of the maker is under the bed by the piston. If yours is there you made need to clean up some grease and dirt to read it
  7. They are know to rust out so take a good look at it. I was thinking about getting one 5 or 6 years ago and at that time there was a web site with a lot of information on them. do not have the link anymore but a web search should turn it up.
  8. The Draft lottery was the only lottery I ever won. I think my number was 9.
  9. Thanks for the input. The truck is outside back on some grass so pulling the pan is not a good option, could pull the head but I think the 1st option will be to remove the side plates that should give me a little better idea as to what is going on.
  10. I took a closer look at my truck today. I had originally thought the engine was seized but looks more mechanical. I removed the radiator and put a wrench on the crank nut only a little resistance and it turned worked it back and forth slowly seem to be free but when I hit about 180 deg it stops. Just trying think what happens at this point any suggestions . I know I will need to at least pull the head and see what is happening but just hopping for a quick fix as I am working outside right now and did not want to get too involved. Ed
  11. Try this link I found it while researching parts for a planned 318 install into to a p15. http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/
  12. started thinking and that is always dangerous. since the motor is siezed in the truck and will need to come out I am thinking about installing a 318 engine with a 4 speed that I have its a 74 engine forget which trans but think it is a 60's dodge truck 420, 435? right now its in a 61 dodge truck. I was thinking about installing this setup in a P15 and had been trading emails with a member on the p15 side and have some good information on this from him. As I would have to make more changes to the p15 as it has a column shift and I do have a good engine in it. I am now thinking the truck should get this setup. So what is involved in the install of a 318 into a Pilothouse I would think basically the same as the p15 swap. Ed
  13. Have been thinking about the sludge and good point about possible bent valve or other damage also noticed the oil filter was missing and the lines were crimped off so I think the best choice is to check this out a little better or maybe just pull the engine it has 76,000 on the odometer. I have a wd21 that I will be starting on soon and have a 230 engine from a 60 power wagon that will be going in it. It has a 230 out of a 50 car maybe a Dodge it was cranking but bad compression in one or 2 cylinders could be a stuck valve. So this will have to wait its turn.
  14. I have a wd21 and b1d both one tons and they do not have rear shocks but I have B series parts manual and it list part# for a rear shock series 1 bcd have same part number 1450-066 different # for series 2 1326 074 Also list a bracket for frame rear 590 694 right 590 695 left No parts I see for the axle bracket If you ever figure this out send me how you did it a long way from worrying about shocks but would like to have it for reference Ed
  15. I went out today to check out the 49 b1d I towed home last weekend. Went to drain the oil nothing came out had to dig through about a inch of sludge. tried to crank the engine and it is stuck. I was hoping the truck would at least turn over maybe start. I would appreciate any suggestions for a stuck engine. I have removed the plugs and distributer (in case it was stuck) and put about a quart of wd40 down the plug holes. I did have a socket with a breaker bar on the crank so I did use reasonable force. The rest of the truck is not that bad a few frame brace will need to be reinforced and the trans and rear is still unknown. The truck is outside right it was planned to be a parts truck for my wd21 but It is not bad enough to be a parts truck with 2 or 3 years work and $10,000.00 and it should be ready for the road:). Ed
  16. Sounds good thanks
  17. I have a 230 engine in a Pilot house truck I just picked up. The distributer looks to be rusted cap was off for years. I have a distributer from a 218 that was in a 49 Plymouth P17 I think I can use that distributer in the 230 but wanted to check to be sure Ed
  18. I took another look at the truck I posted about a few days ago (coop find) and it does look like it is worth saving I had originally purchased it as a parts truck. The door post and the vent windows are in need of repair the vent window is in poor condition glass is ok frames may need to be replaced. What years do the doors and vent windows interchange with and which models. I will not get to this until next year have another truck ahead of this one. But since I will retire later this year should have plenty of time. I did get the title switched to my name today a little confusion as it was the original 1949 title from Delaware I am in New Jersey but I eventually got it switched over. Ed
  19. I know we all have heard the term barn fresh but since this was stored in a chicken coop I figured I would use the correct title fortunately there were no chickens stored with it. The last time it was on the road was 1968-69. I purchased the truck from the original owner's family. I do not have any other Pilot House trucks but do have a 46 WD21 also waiting restoration but I liked the idea of being the 2nd owner of a 49 truck. The truck s basically complete it has the 9' bed and even has the original spare tire holder under the bed. The truck has much surface rust some rust out spots but not a lot. The doors and windows will need a lot of work and the condition of the engine and drive train are unknown. for now here are a few photos Ed http://oldmopar.com/49B1D/49B1Dpics.html
  20. I have a 230 engine that came from a 1960 PW. It will be going in my 46WD21
  21. That is a good reference on wheels. and it is amazing how long Dodge keep to a standard. I use a spare from a P15 as a spare tire for my 76 D100 truck although the truck tire is actually a little wider. Ed
  22. tire inflation info from a 63 gmc manual shows 7.00-15 8 ply tube tire with suggested pressures based on load from 30 psi at 1200 to 60 psi at 1800 yours being 10 ply could hold more but for my 2 cents I would go with the 45 psi as suggested. Ed
  23. I was thinking the same thing I owned a 59 Plymouth back in 68 my 1st car and then it was only 9 years old and I remember putting some silver metal tape on the top of the fender that was rusted back then.
  24. Norm,rearview,Bob_Koch I added a link to the menu on my website. I used rearviews 6 page version and Bob I also added you install guide and reference the site it comes from if that is ok. Ed radio diagram direct is http://oldmopar.com/p15/P15radioa.pdf or it is a menu item on my site http://oldmopar.com/index.html
