  1. It's always so sad for me to see members who have to give up their cars. I put myself in your place and I can easily see how it can happen. Inevitably it will. Kind of reminds me that we are only custodians for these cars for the next person, but it's a good feeling having been able to save them from the weeds.
  2. Thanks. Unfortunately my car isn't driveable, but I'm sure I could get it to the right temp once I get it started. It's the chicken and the egg kind of thing.
  3. What is a good additive to flush the cooling system? I see Mopar sold a one-pint can that you added to the water, ran and drained.
  4. How easy are these things to rebuild yourself and have it be successful?
  5. Those are great photos! have any more?
  6. I'll bite. What is a moroso washer?
  7. Good point!
  8. I fully intend to put one in.
  9. I finally removed the two bolts in the thermostat housing on my '47 Desoto. When I removed the housing, no thermostat! Could they have run it without?
  10. Okay. I'll see after I put water in the radiator. How long would it take to leak?
  11. No, it's on the block, driver's side front, near the freeze plug but not coming out of the freeze plug opening.
  12. Actually, the engine is in the car and fully together. I was in the process of flushing the cooling system before I tried to start it. The car was in pretty good condition when I bought seven years ago. It started, and the mechanic I bought it from said he did a compression test, etc. and it was okay. I haven't noticed this crack before, but then I wasn't looking.
  13. I was removing the thermo housing bolts from my 47' flathead, for which I thank all of you for your advice, and noticed this fissure or crack or superficial casting flaw just under the driver's side thermo housing bolt to the left of the front freeze plug. Is my block history? Can it be welded?
  14. Where's the cache and how do you clear it?
  15. I have a couple of bolts that are stuck pretty tight on the thermo housing. Can I soak them with a WD-40 type rust penitrator and then lightly torch them? I need some advice on how hot and how long on the torching part. And, dare I remove the bolts with an air ratchet?
  16. What I've done is to paint in the recessed letters, allow it to dry maybe a couple of hours or so (until it's good and set but not fully hardened) and swipe over the letters with a smooth cloth like an undershirt material lightly soaked in paint thinner. By lightly I mean not "wet" but with enough traces of the thinner to remove the paint on the edges of the letters. What you might do is to hit the cloth with thinner and pat dry between two paper towels. If you accidentally remove any paint inside the letters, an easy touch-up.
  17. I had been looking for the same info, and got a lot of of it here some months ago. So it is probably in the search section.
  18. Why did this suddenly start? It's been fine ever since this new site came on line.
  19. It might be my computer, but I am having trouble getting out of a thread and returning to the main forum page. The little blue circle turns like it usually does when returning to a previous page, then stops, then turns again, on and on. I have to leave the site and come back in. Anybody else having this problem?
  20. Thanks. I thought that maybe it was press fit.
  21. How does the oil filler tube come off of a flat head? It's right in the way of a freeze plug.
  22. Thrashingcows has an excellent photo record of his S-11, '47 or '48 I think. If you search this site you should be able to find his thread and link onto his pages. Tons of photos. I have an S-11 and have copied many of his photos for reference. His is a Canadian S-11 if I recall correctly. Other guys on here have S-11's as well. Good luck!!
  23. Yep!
