I'm looking forward to updates on your progress. Here in Richmond Kentucky driving a non airconditioned vehicle is just miserable in the summer. A couple of questions: Do you have a double groove crank pulley? How and where are you going to mount the compressor? Brad

UNLOADING A 1/2 TON WITH NO BRAKES FROM A TRAILER
bkahler replied to Dodgefran's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I use a nice long thick (1/2" or so) rope. Tie one end to the front axle, loop the other around something smooth at the front of the trailer like a round front guard rail. One loop only, not two or more. Take up the tension on the rope and start pushing the truck off the trailer. As the truck moves backwards slowly release the rope. It's amazing how much control you have when rolling something off the trailer. My dad taught me this trick and I've used it for years without fail. My trailer has a front rail that is round that I wrap the rope around. Good luck! Brad -
Thanks for the clarification. I knew there were differences, just couldn't remember all of them.

I'm probably wrong but for some reason It thought the 48-50 fenders were different than the 51-53 fenders. Maybe it's just the doors that are different....
-
Yeah, I'm dealing with that problem as well.....

When you first posted the picture of the box I was reading the post on my phone in the sunlight and couldn't make out the lettering on the box. Now that I'm looking at the picture on my computer I see that the number was easily visible. I guess these old eyes just don't function as well as they used to......

I for one will sleep easier tonight knowing this ? Thanks!

Have you looked at the bottom side of the ornament to see if the number matches the box? From what I've read Dodge changed the part number in their catalog but all of the ornaments had the same number cast inside.

I don't think ANY font can express the amount of jealousy I am experiencing right now! All I can say is WOW! Does the box have a part number visible?

That's the problem with the internet. It's hard to read intent with typed words. Oh yeah, the little font above I would call whispering and the larger font yelling!

JB, I'm assuming you schedule your various lady friend visits so they don't overlap with one another.....
-
That was a LONG phone call..... ?

Do your doors use door checks or did Dodge change to something different for your truck? I have various extra door checks laying around.
-
Are those factory? I can safely say the 48-53 trucks don't have them.

Help me understand door adjustment.

Yep, I missed that part ? I wasn't thinking about the part where you would have to remove the small screw in order to set the door in place. Oh well....... -
Help me understand door adjustment.

What about drilling and tapping a small hole in the plate so you can hold it in place. After tapping the hole then enlarge the hole in the sheet metal so you have some wiggle room. If you need to adjust the door, loosen the screw. I'm thinking a 10/24 size screw should be more than sufficient to hold it when all of the 3/8" screws have been removed. Just a thought..... -
Looking good. I guess I better get that adapter plate done pretty soon

Back when I first got the truck and started dismantling it, it never dawned on me that the heater and defroster components didn't come standard with the truck. So it seemed natural that the bracket would be cab color as well. It just so happened that my truck was black. It wasn't until I got a parts manual that I realized they were optional. There's enough details on the truck that are not correct so for me it's not worth worrying about anymore -

Bill, my guess is black is the correct color. I believe these were dealer (or customer) installed accessories. I never removed mine from the cab when it went to the painters so it got painted cab color. Originally my truck was black and the bracket was black. If it bugs me enough then someday I might remove the bracket and paint it black but I've got enough other things to deal w with already Brad -

Jim, I bought the Master Cylinder from Amazon. It fits a 97-06 Jeep Wrangler. I chose it for the fact that it was a match for the Jeep Wrangler rear end I installed with disc brakes along with the new Rusty Hope front disc brakes and most importantly it fit in the limited space where the original master cylinder fit. I did have to fabricate an aluminum adapter plate to get it to fit properly. I can't say how well it's works because I haven't driven the truck yet but I'm not to worried about it, others have used the same or similar master cylinders. Brad -

I finally got around to making a punch for making the PTFE washers I needed for the dash switches and pull cables. I used a 3/4" black pipe nipple and turned one end on the lathe to make a die type punch. In hind sight using a pipe nipple wasn't the best choice because the metal is so soft. But, it worked well enough to punch some washers out. It actually worked better cutting than the store bought punch I used for the inner cutout. I guess at the end of the day I was able to create the washers I needed so I'm happy Brad -
The engine in my truck didn't have the oil gauge connected when I bought it. I believe that particular engine was out of a P15. Anyway, this picture is what I had to work with and thought was how the trucks were done although without the rubber isolation hose.
-
Interesting pictures. I had always thought the oil line fitting went to the port behind the starter. I knew the trucks didn't have the rubber hoses in the oil line between the gauge and the block but I just like the idea of having the isolation feature the rubber hoses provides. Now I've got to decide if I should re-route the line from the hose to the block on my truck!

Ok, the oil gauge piping is done. I installed my spare block fitting without modification. Other than fluids all that's left before trying to start the engine is generator, starter and heat riser. I'll try and tackle those tasks over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Brad
