Is the cab rear corner curved glass toughened?
Desotodav replied to wendleburger's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Wow, I just looked at pictures of your truck on other threads. You're not wrong about it being "far from standard". Good job by the way! I'd go with the film applied to the glass and hope for the best. It's a pity that my relative didn't have that option. Our RTA equivalent here in Qld have some interesting ideas too. The fella that inspected my 52 truck for rego was too excited about the truck to look at too much. Although, I think this truck came out alright and he would have been pushed to find a problem. Be sure to send some more pics of the completed project. Desotodav -
I went with a couple of 'Motogard' mirrors that I picked up new for $22 each. They were the closest that I could find to the original - but they are stainless steel. Although, I'm not sure that you guys over there used the same mirrors as us here in Oz. The mirror fitting shown in the attached photo is what we had installed by the factory over here. The left side mirror on my 52 right-hand drive truck is for show only as the 'A' pillar blocks all view from the driver's seat. Desotodav

I got my 52 truck back from the Upholsterer last week after having the interior finished off. I still need to press the original holding clips through the firewall yet to make it look a little more original. I went with a material similar to Dynamat on the underside of the roof. The insulation qualities are amazing. I reckon that I have dropped my inside cab temp by a number of degrees Celsius! I used a perspex material on all of the interior and then had the brown vinyl glued to it. I had the option to use the cardboard type material (like the original stuff) but went with the perspex as I feel that the old cardboard stuff tends to sag and is not good with moisture. I think that it came out alright... Desotodav

Is the cab rear corner curved glass toughened?
Desotodav replied to wendleburger's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Apologies for the belated reply - I've been out west. Hank: you have a way with words! Wendleburger: A relative of mine had the same problem with his Engineer when trying to register his truck. He ended up filling the corner windows in with metal in order to get the truck registered. His truck was somewhat 'modified' though. I was not so unfortunate as my truck has remained in its original configuration. A couple of questions: Where are you at? Has your truck been altered from original standards? if not, then you need a different Engineer! Send me a PM and we can chat further as we seen to be the only country with this issue. The rear corner windows in the Oz trucks are plate glass. I can tell you this because I broke one recently whilst trying to fit my new (correct) rear window rubbers with my Window Fitter mate. Maybe I should have taken a photo? but I think there were too many swear words being thrown around at the time! I was fortunate enough to have a spare set of corner windows in the shed. I would imagine that you would have problems installing Perspex here in Oz too as there is no set standard for perspex window applications in vehicles. My Window Fitter mate suggested that no Engineer would know otherwise if one was to somehow paint the 'Armourplate Safety Glass' circular motif (like on the other windows) onto the corner windows. Real world Route Van serial number information needed
Desotodav replied to townwagon's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I came across this route van service reference book on Ebay Eric... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mopar-1948-Dodge-Route-Van-Steering-Clutch-Brake-Lock-/350467753655?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51998186b7#ht_500wt_1180 . Would it offer you any of the information that you are after? It says on the cover that the book was prepared by the Chrysler Corp. Desotodav -
I had my metal fabricating mate make me up a couple of metal gloveboxes to the original specifications. I found that all of my cardboard ones had sagged. I notice that there are 2 different sorts of gloveboxes listed in the parts manual - the smaller version for those trucks fitted with a heater and larger version (like mine) for those trucks without a heater. From memory, the cost to make my metal gloveboxes was around $40 each. Desotodav

Andy, your photos look very similar to the coupe that I saw advertised as a 36 Desoto for something like $40k around here about 12-18 months ago. Desotodav

Looks pretty close to the measurements of the ones that I pictured Mark. I measured both of the ones that I pictured and they showed: 0.1000 and .430 measurements from mine for the first one that you show. 1965, 2970 and 3038, 1400 and 1371 for the second one that you show. I'll try and see what I can chase up from my contacts here in Oz when I get back from out west after next week. Desotodav

I have a few tanks in my possession but I have never seen one like your second tank - with the "fuel line fitting is on the top of the tank and the filler pipe angle ... more to the rear" as you say. It looks like they both have the retainer ring type fuel sender fittings, which causes me to think that they both came from 6V trucks. Desotodav

Wow!!! Great job Kevin. Makes me wish that we had them in our trucks here in Oz. Desotodav

Here is a miniature version from Ebay for you Eric... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Matchbox-DODGE-ROUTE-VAN-NEW-YORK-TIMES-/200671669912?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item2eb8f6ae98#ht_939wt_1396 Desotodav -
Anybody ever "fix" a honeycomb radiator core?
Desotodav replied to 95ttoplt1's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
We have a guy here in Oz that fixes the honeycomb cores... http://www.ftrs.com.au/index.php . He's not far from my place if you needed me to do the running around for you though. I have a couple of spare radiators that don't owe me much, but they need core work too. It would probably work out fairly costly (freight wise) to get it over and back from/to your location. Ed, thanks for the info. I just went down to the shed to check on my Dodge coupe truck and the longer bolt is fitted as you said. I'll have to remove a bed-board on the 52 to rectify the way that I presently have the longer bolt fitted. John T, apologies as I thought that I had a spare wing nut for you but then I found that my coupe truck was missing one. I should have another (parts) truck arriving shortly so I'll see what I can do for you. Otherwise, I'll chase up a couple of guys that I know in the bolt trade to see if there's anything similar made out there. Desotodav

Well done Bob - the picture is complete again! Welcome back Cooper. Desotodav

I hope these photos help you guys... I had my bolts zinc plated before installing them a while ago. I managed to get a few sets done at the time so that I had them for the other trucks when I need them. The trucks that I have seen here have the mushroom part of the bolt (on your passenger side) to the top and not to the underside of the tyre carrier. This has created a problem for me now as I am unable to remove the bolt (if I wanted to) without removing my outside floor board first. I'm now wondering if the mushroom part of this bolt should have gone in the down position??? I haven't found any good pictures of spare tyre carriers in any manuals yet. I have attached the closest that I found from a Canadian truck manual that I have. I have noticed that the tyre carriers come in 2 different styles. The one fitted to my 52 truck (pictured) is the straighter version. The other version has a sharper bend to the carrier rail towards the rear of the truck. I thought that I had a picture of them both together showing their differences but can't find it. Good job on reproducing the bolts Mark. Desotodav

Great photos, but just something missing without Cooper in them. I wish him a speedy recovery. Desotodav

Dave, I found the picture of the 'extension 7-16-68' that I was talking about from the manual. I haven't seen them in any trucks here in Oz yet. My truck runs consistently at around 160 degrees with no shroud. I am intrigued by the 'extensions' listed in the manual though. Well done on that good looking truck of yours. Desotodav

Check with Neil at the Old Ply Cafe...http://members.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=seaplym . He's got plenty of Mopar decals. Desotodav

One of the Australian truck manuals that I have lists upper and lower extension panels ('extension' 7-16-68) which attach to the upper and lower radiator support panels ('baffle' 7-16-69). There were no part numbers listed for those extension panels in the manual. I'd would have sent you pictures but I'm working off the laptop and eagerly awaiting my desktop computer being fixed. The extensions would offer some form of protection from the fan, but I have never come across them yet in any truck that I have found. I'll will post a picture from the manual next week when my other computer is up and running again. Desotodav

Glenn, judging by the nosecone your truck appears to be around 54-55 for our models. It should have two wide recessed grille bars fitted. I will have my computer up and running again tomorrow. I'll PM you with my email address. Desotodav

Welcome to the forum Titan. There are a few of us from the east coast of Oz on here. Where are you from? Post a couple of pics of your truck and that will assist in determining the year model. Our model years here differ a little from the overseas ones. Desotodav

33DD, a belated welcome to you. It appears that Kevin has answered your questions. I have only managed to get rear windows out by pushing them in. I have just re-installed my rear windows with the correct rubber and they went in from the inside. Be sure to post a couple of pictures of your new truck when you get a chance so we all know what you're working on. Desotodav

I have come across a few Fargo's here. My mate Arnold even has red rims on his Fargo truck. Earl has a blue Fargo which has the same hubcaps as his green Dodge (all 16 inch wheels). My 55 interior is similar to Earl's in his green Dodge. Our trucks here vary a little to their overseas relatives. I picked up a good set of Fargo 16" dog-dish hubcaps for a another friend recently for $51. We seemed to have a few Fargo's here in Oz. Good luck with your project. Desotodav

Thanks Reg, I saw that. Interesting choice of words for the description by the seller though. The thought of embarrassment did cross my mind if one were to drive around with that item attached to their truck as a hood ornament. Desotodav
