  1. They pop up on Ebay from time to time. There's one there at present... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NOS-OLD-MOPAR-STEERING-WHEEL-AXLE-NUT-1940s-OBSOLETE-3-4-20-ExtraFine-THREAD-/320871028256?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ab5675620#ht_7660wt_1396 . Desotodav
  2. I may have to do some work on my 52 truck now??? I just brought it home from a show and heard the distinct 'ping' sound what I believe to be a nut or bolt falling from the truck (whilst travelling along) and hitting the tail shaft. Hmm, where to start? Hopefully the job might be as easy as finding a bolt without nut attached under the truck somewhere! Desotodav
  3. Well done Merle - what a great idea! I have been contemplating a tonneau cover for my 52 truck but have not quite worked out how I will do it yet. The back of my Oz truck is somewhat different to your truck bed/s over there. Seeing how you have done yours now has certainly sparked some new ideas for me. I'll be sure to check out that website that you mentioned also. Thanks for posting! Desotodav
  4. PM sent to you re offer of assistance/advice Gary. Desotodav
  5. I have a collection of old jacks down at the shed, but I am still missing the one that I believe is correct for our trucks (see pictures 1 and 2)... The 3rd picture is of a jack that I saw for sale on Epay a while ago which was advertised as a 48-53 Dodge truck jack. I'd love to find out which jack is correct for our trucks - maybe I already have a couple of them in my shed? Desotodav
  6. PM sent to ya Tom. This diagram from the manual might help you. Spring 14-06-1 should be what we're talking about. Desotodav
  7. Which one do you want Tom? I might have a stainless steel one that fits over your way. Desotodav
  8. Sorry Paul, I didn't have an answer for your question as I sent mine out to a Blacksmith to be done. Looks like you're doing a fine job though! Desotodav
  9. I measured the distance for you on my 52 truck and came up with 10.7087 inches (or 272mm). Desotodav
  10. Gary: In case you’re wondering about the install process, I found this process worked for me: the 2 inside door 'weatherstrips' (23-63-97) get attached to the door first via 3 small press-in clips each side, then the complete vent window goes in with a few screws into the door channel, and then the 'run' (23-42-16 shown to the left of the manual picture) goes in - it should have a tab to the lower end which it slides into to hold it in place. The complete sliding window with bottom 'channel' (23-09-52) complete with the other 'run' (23-42-16' shown in the centre of the manual picture) and 'division bar' (23-64-6) slides in gently next. The 'channel' (23-09-50) can then be slid in place and secured from inside the door after the sliding glass is inside the door – it should have has 2 bolts down through the vent window channel and 2 bolts around the middle of the inside of the door. The 'regulator' (23-39-5) has a nut which allows a slight adjustment to get the window travelling straight up and down. Try the search function on the topic as I’m sure there was a fair bit of chatter about installing door windows not that long ago. Desotodav
  11. I have found my truck/s with the nuts for the starter pedal on the outside GTK. Desotodav
  12. Ryan: how did you go with that wiper switch? I see that the thread is from quite some time ago. I have found that my Oz truck/s have had the under-dash toggle (single-speed) wiper switch to operate the single electric wiper motor. Although, I do think that the above-dash style wiper knob does looks much fancier! Desotodav
  13. I hope these pictures are what you are after... Desotodav
  14. I ride my bike every day - but then I don't have much of a say in that. Things we do for money hey! Desotodav
  15. Great job Mark - as with the rest of the truck too!!! I see that your truck has the same greyish gauge face as mine. I just had mine tidied up as the original paint was good. I had a flush-mounted indicator warning LED installed, which is barely noticeable unless lit (it's just below the '40'). I really look forward to seeing photos of your truck completed. Desotodav
  16. Wow, you guys have gone all out on your springs. I had a Blacksmith (friend of a friend) reset my rear springs and make me two complete new front springs for my truck for $250. I did not powder coat them, and I do get the odd rust mark seeping out from between the sleeves - but I've been told that a good coat of Inox should fix that. Well done to you both though for going to that effort! Desotodav
  17. I was thinking the same thing Rich. I reckon you might be onto something there. Desotodav
  18. So how many grand too high do you guys reckon this truck presently on Ebay is?... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1954-Soto-Pick-Up-Hot-Rod-/260963662834?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3cc2a57bf2#ht_500wt_1413 . Nice truck, but not my thing the way he's done it! Desotodav
  19. I have obtained a few different crank handles from trucks here in Oz. The top one (with the bezel on it and part number stamped in the shaft) in the attached photo will find its way into my 52 truck. I have only ever seen one original jack though which is sitting in a fella's shed and not for sale unfortunately. Desotodav
  20. Great job on the chrome Mark - love that horn ring! Price seems fairly good. I am fortunate enough to have found a great chromer/polisher over here. In saying that though, it costs around $100 to chrome a hubcap (with no dents) over here if that gives you any comparison. The vent wing latches have a small corrugated washer that sits on the shaft in behind the latch to spring load the latch placing back-pressure on the the pin to hold it in place. I can drop down the shed and see if I can find some to get a photo if you need one? I can see a new "cool tool" for tightening instrument bezels (compliments of Eric) being put to good use soon! 21. Has anybody out there got one of these 'ASH' knobs that they would like to sell? I'm chasing one to compliment the other knobs in my 52 Desoto truck. I have posted in the parts wanted section also. I have a NOS 'ASH' knob with the black paint and white writing fitted to my current ash tray but it is not correct for my truck. You wouldn't happen to have another one RichardB? I was too slow in acting on your last post. Desotodav
  22. We discussed this seal a while back. Try this one... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=27120&highlight=tank+seal . Desotodav
  23. I paid $1500 for my 52 truck back in 2005, and have spent countless dollars on it since! Good one Hank - I was 12 years old in 1979 !!! Desotodav
  24. I have recently purchased a NOS under-dash ash receiver for my 52 Desoto (Oz-Canadian) SC-108 truck. The minor difference between our Oz trucks and the American trucks has left me searching for an 'ASH' knob from the later in-dash style ash tray - the all chrome knob without the painted black face in the middle of the knob. I saw that RichardB sold one recently and have attached the picture of his ash-tray with the knob style that I am seeking (I hope you don't mind Richard. I have been trying to contact you). I have also attached a picture of the (yet to be chromed) knobs presently fitted to my truck. I would really appreciate anyone that has one of these 'ASH' knobs (or knows where to get one) contacting or advising me so that I can obtain one to complete the dash area of my truck. I have listed the same info in the parts wanted section. Desotodav
  25. Congratulations on a job well done with that old radio Hank. The quality of the radio certainly has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since the original condition that you obtained it in. That face plate looks like a NOS one now. I see that you have obtained the speaker as well. I'm sure a few of the guys would be interested in seeing how that gets installed. I've got my fingers crossed for you mate for the power-up! I don't reckon that you'll have any dramas though, given the time and effort you have put into the refurbishment. Good job!!! Desotodav
