  1. My recollection was that they suggested 3 pounds of fuel pressure for these, and that's what my gauge at the fuel block shows I'm getting. Marty
  2. While I agree that a flow meter is ultimately the right way to balance them, if you have a set of small and pliable feeler gauges, you might try measuring the gap at the side of the throttle plates to see if they are open the same amount. The process you described worked fine for my Carter-Webers; maybe one of your carbs is binding slightly and consequently has a different starting point for the idle adjustment. Marty
  3. It's only a problem if you have a later, internal bypass block and an earlier, external bypass head, as you will have a giant water leak. The early/early combination doesn't care, since there aren't any water passages there, and the later/later combination requires this style of gasket. Marty
  4. Well, I continue to benefit from Don's travails. I pulled out my original master cylinder yesterday, cleaned everything up and trial fitted my pedals. My observations are as follows: 1. I have exactly the same side clearance issues that Don mentioned, so I have ordered the same oilite bushing from McMaster-Carr. I actually ordered several of them, so if anyone needs any I can save you some shipping costs. 2. I've been mystified by the need to drill an extra hole for the third mounting bolt, so I started measuring the holes. What do you know, the 3 existing holes perfectly match the OEM master cylinder IF IT WAS MOUNTED BACKWARDS. I think we have a design failure in progress! So I'm taking my mount to work to have another piece of steel welded on and drill it to mount using all three of the OEM mounting locations. I'm also going to add the stops for both pedals just like Don did. Once it is completed I'll be documenting everything and sending it to ECI. 3. Lastly, one of Don's comments caught me by surprise. He had to take the pin on the OEM brake pedal off again to add the connection point for the return spring. This was news to me, because my car has never had anything there! I'm guessing that it got lost during the engine swap (or was never there at all), and I didn't know it. So I'm wondering if anyone has a parts car that they could get the eyelet and the spring off of, and tell me where the other end connects? I've got a lot of OEM front brake parts to trade! Marty
  5. I ran a 6V system for a number of years, with modern 6V 60W halogen headlights (with headlight relays) and a 6V alternator. I finally switched to 12V after several failed attempts to get a working accurate factory fuel gauge, because all of the universal ones I found were 12V. Otherwise it would still be 6V. Marty
  6. I get the same effect with my electric fan, since the relay is 3 inches from the battery that it draws power from. When the fan comes on my ammeter jumps 15 amps positive. Marty
  7. Just curious; has anyone ever tried Hushpower mufflers? http://www.hushpower.com/product/29/HP-2+Series+Mufflers+-+409S.html Marty
  8. My car has a pair of 30 inch glasspacks, and seems a little on the loud side to me. Marty
  9. An interesting picture. I see no evidence of the steel ring that would be in a groove on the backside of the steering wheel, and even if it was there the turn signal assembly would have to be much higher on the steering column for the steel ring to contact the wheels inside the switch that are the cancelling mechanism. Marty
  10. I'm running Wheel Vintique 7"x15" wheels on the back of my P15 with 235/60x15 tires. The rearend is lowered 1.5" with lowering blocks, and I have a 1/4" spacer on the axle. The tires just hit the fender a little bit when cornering fast. Marty
  11. The OD unit itself is 0.67 to 1, as I recall. Marty
  12. I actually bought a black steel one and put it sideways on the back side of a firewall brace below the passenger foot well; it's practically invisible there! Marty
  13. You might just need to add a vacuum reservoir so that there is enough volume for your booster. There are a number of good sized aluminum or steel ones in the hot rod catalogs for all of the guys with lumpy camshafts. Marty
  14. Oh yeah, when I first bought my car it had one of these filters. I took it down to the local oil change place for an oil change, and they installed a new filter. I made it about a block before I started smelling oil; by the time I made it back there it had pumped out almost 2 quarts of oil, and they spent most of the afternoon cleaning my engine compartment! Marty
  15. Nice looking car! I particularly like the wheel package; am I right that the rears are a larger diameter than the fronts? Marty
  16. It's too bad that there are 2 threads running about the ECI setup; as I said in the other one, I think Don received the wrong master cylinder, as the one that I just received has fittings towards the driveshaft side. The ECI catalog list a Mustang and a Torino master cylinder that are identical except that the fittings are on the opposite side; mine is supposed to be the Mustang one. Don, thanks for the info on the thrust washer; I haven't got that far on mine yet! Marty
  17. Don, I think you have the wrong master cylinder. The one that I just received from ECI has the outlets towards the driveshaft, and the catalog does show both a Mustang and a Torino master cylinder, the only difference being which side the connections are on. Marty
  18. If the ammeter was inline with the generator it should have been showing a steady output that is supporting the ignition system and any other loads, even if the battery isn't charging. Marty
  19. Darn, it's doubly annoying to read about the various details of this because the one I ordered just arrived yesterday! I guess the good news is that Don should have all of the fixes defined by the time that I am ready to start! Marty
  20. The problem with wire transfers is that no one has to sign for them, they just disappear ........, plus if a transaction is paid for with a USPS money order and turns out to be fraudulent, the post office is more likely to help you follow up on it. Marty
  21. I had my pistons made by Venolia. I just sent them a stock piston, a set of the rings I wanted to use, the bore that the rings were intended for, and the wrist pin size I wanted, and they made a nice set of forged pistons for me. Marty
  22. I'm in San Leandro. Right now my engine is apart, waiting for some new valves. Hopefully will be together in a few weeks. I've never taken my car on a trip, since every time I have tried it has found a new trick to play on me, but maybe I should try to venture out of my comfort zone a little ...... Marty
  23. You also have to get the surface really clean, or the Glyptol won't stick. We used to use Glyptol inside race motors back in the day, but stopped using it in street motors ......... Marty
  24. If the cracking is caused by heat expansion as you say, ceramic coating will help PROVIDING that it is coated both inside and out. The inside coating will slow down and reduce the amount of heat that transfers from the exhaust gas to the manifold casting. Marty, whose ceramic-coated cast iron headers stay really cool ......
  25. When we tried to pull the tube out of my 230, it broke in half. My mechanic actually drilled and tapped a big hole in the back of the block, pulled the offending pieces out, then made a threaded plug to close up the block! Not recommended! Marty
