  1. My son and grandson, in. Memory of cancelled BBQ
  2. Five years? I may not last that long.
  3. As I lamented the canceled BBQ, I continued work on the Sportster. It’s getting very close to complete. It will be sold, but if not by 2014 BBQ, will tow it up. Stay safe everyone. In the meantime.
  4. My sentiments exactly! The White House, just a favorite shot.
  5. not at all. With the increased reliance on computerized cars, many small shop mechanics today won’t touch modern cars. Can’t afford the software required. Makes my interest in my ‘53’s grow.
  6. I see by the number that some are watching this thread. I’m proceeding very slowly theses days. Yet I am still in the shop about 4 hrs a day. Yesterday I srartedto. Trick out the bed. I will use this for my fuel for the time being. I’m working body sheet metal now.
  7. The bow tie on the hood says chevy. Interesting that in that line up is a convertible and a suburban. What year is the Chrysler?
  8. Ulu, haven’t worked with the parts yet. Bed is essentially done, will be welding on the body next. At only three to four hours a day, progress is slower, but I’m getting there. Will get another cortisone shot in my right knee next week.
  9. About done with the bed. The bed sprayed with bed liner which has a texture finish. Will ad castle nuts, a cross rod to tie it together, and. bolt the stakes to the body.
  10. The cars are 1951’s or ‘52’s. Great photos.
  11. Made some bed rails today. After they dry, I’ll install. Metal work is next. Don’t work very fast anymore.
  12. Two items: have a starter problem on my suburban, new solenoid, good heavy cables, new ign switch, new solenoid which clicks as it should, but starter won’t activate. Tomorrow will Recharge the battery and clean the terminal on the starter. It’s a six volt starter on a 12 volt system, should spin. item two, I’m building some oak wood side and front rails for my Sportster bed, and ordered all remaing needed parts from Jbug to finish the mechanical. At 82, I’m much slower today than two years ago but that’s to be expected. I live in a rural area so still very careful, but don’t have the urban situation.
  13. In my opinion, this is one area where the line is drawn between a great daily driver and a trophy car. Secondly, between the.less wealthy hobbiest and the person of means who can have it as he wishes. I appreciate both.
  14. Giant On the Waterfront The Ten Commandments Run Silent, Run Deep The Sting back when, matinees were a dime for two movies. BB wars were common. Balconies were hot!
  15. Ulu, I’ll sell you my truck!
  16. Like all, will certainly miss the BBQ. So on that day will drive my suburban into the foothills, put lunch on the manifold, a cold beer, a chair and meditate. Others might do similar, then start an April 3 pictorial thread of where we were on April 2/3.
  17. Octogenarians are highly susceptible to the virus, thus they may be unknown carriers even to themselves. So why shop with such? I’m not satisfied that one place is safer than another so we will live semi solitaire, careful and cautious. I lived through the polio years so in that sense been there, done that. A cousin, close friend, my wife had polio so it did touch me.
  18. Hey, no one put a bed in? Poor mans camper.
  19. The above does not appeal to me, an octogenarian. If so set up, I would totally avoid such!
  20. I’ve posted this before, this is what I did in my ‘53 suburban. I am going to pull the rod tomorrow and check the nuts. To get the correct new length, I put a hose over the original rod, then slowly pushed the brake, the hose slid back and I got my length. Then I welded a steel bolt on the shaft shortened the push by 1/4 of an inch. I still have the adjustable end to fine tune. Did the same on my truck eight years ago.
  21. “ I out ran it?” I joined the club at age 80. I finished the brakes on my Suburban, engine is ready, now on jack stands for detailed safety check, can’t work like I used to.
  22. “ oh no, the Corolla virus has infected the BBQ thread!! better wear a mask Paul! “! CV doesn’t frighten me, but “hoof and mouth disease” always a concern at the BBQ.
  23. I’ve got a few details to work out on my Suburban. I plan on driving it up? Will still be under construction but will try to have it mechanically sound. Cosmetics later.
  24. I too, just read this thread. I started this hobby some 10+/- years ago and realize that I’m now in the advanced novice stage. Yet it is an enjoyable experience. I only knew how to change oil and plugs when I started. To those who have helped teach me, thanks.
